Fix crack in dash ?
Is it worth it or should I look for a replacement dash/dash cover (not easy around here)?
Can you get decent results fixing it yourself and how would one do it ?
Also, my dash is currently blueish which probably went well with the original
blue color but not that well with the current silver/brown color.
Do you repaint these with vinyl color, how are the results ?

If you have the dash professionally repaired, it's going to be expensive. If you try to remove it to fix it, it may crack even more and in more places anyway. Why not throw a dash cover (rug type) on it, or maybe a dash cap if you can find one for a 4th gen. In the meantime you could keep looking for a good used dashpad and when you find one, you could dye it the color you need. Dying them is not that difficult, especiallly doing it when its out of the car. Make sure you give it a very good cleaning first, then use light coats of a good quality brand vinyl dye, allowing each coat to dry first before applying the next coat. Dashpads crack because of longterm exposure to the suns ultra violet rays, extreme temperature changes, and of course when your drunk buddy uses your dash as a drum set while listening to a Led Zepplin drum solo.

I'd go for a full face dash cap dyed to match the interior. They are available on eBay and from just about all of the El Camino suppliers. Probable cost about 65.00 plus shipping which may be high to
Sweden. Mine is black which, of course, helps, but if you don't know it's a cap, it's hard to tell from inside the truck and almost impossible to tell from outside the truck. The problem, or opportunity depending on how you look at it with a "good" used pad is that even if it isn't cracked now, it will no doubt be brittle and you can go through all of the work to dye it, remove the old one and so on and then crack it if you push a little too hard or in the wrong place when you're installing it.

Thank you!
A good point about the "used" dash pads. If they are from a 4th
gen camino, they are bound to be as old and worn out as the one
I currently have.
And yes, the current one is all brittle, I "felt" it today, and nearly
caused more cracks by just touching it. Each day brings a new
discovery with this car, it is a good teacher :)
I think I'm gonna try and get my local "yankee part" importer to
add a dash cap on his next shipment. Black will do fine, it's what
I want. For $65 it's definately worth a try.
Are there by any chance caps for the gearbox as well ?
PS, Mike, if my buddies are drunk, I won't let them anywhere
near my camino, they will not appreciate the greatness of the
ride anyway. There are plenty of rusty old Volvos with large
trunks for them to sober up in :)
