The past few days Chevrolet has been running commercials with the UTE. Semi- car hauler on the road with the UTE being the last driven on backwards. Is this for real, does Chevrolet plan to introduce this vehicle to the U.S. market?? I'd like to get a closer look at the dealer if this is so. Doesn't mean I'll give up on my El Camino.

I saw that commerical the other day. The first thing on is the vette and the last one on is the SSR not a Holden UTE. They spin it around backwards and back it on while moving. '04 is the year of the C6 Corvette.

Another big mistake by GM! Please let me know if any of you ever see one of the SSR's actually on the highway. Only a few large dealers in my area have any, and they are letting them sit in the showroom awaiting bids from interested folks with more money than brains. Even other dealers are sending in "bids" to try to get one for themselves.

I've always heard that you have to mass produce vehicles and sell lots of them in order for them to be successful. And that includes enticing people to upgrade them every few years and thus creating a used car market for that marque and letting folks in at the lower end of the market. Chevy isn't even trying to mass produce or mass market these vehicles. You wouldn't dare take one of these to Home Depot, Lowe's, or the local garden center if you could afford one or find one for sale at the list price. Why they couldn't build a 6th gen El Camino in the low $20's is beyond me! Wait and see, one of the Japanese makers (probably Nissan or Toyota) will come out with an El Camino-type hybrid vehicle and then us muscle car fans will have a real tough decision to make! Just my two cents worth. What do you think?

for now the SSR is like all new cars/trucks and corvettes. each dealership is only allowed to buy so many. here at Koepps, i do not see one coming here in the near future, if ever. i personally think they are ugly, and should not ever, under any circumstances be called an el camino. but i am really looking forward to the new body style vettes (i think in 05) . we do get a vette every chance we get, b/c they sell fast... too bad ill never afford one. :(

Went to the holden web site and checked out the UTE as well as the SSR on the chevy site. I never paid that much attention to the SSR other than the fact that it was supposed to have a decent HP package. Now that I've had a good look at the body styling they can keep it for the money they expect to garner for it. I would have to sell my body to science to try and buy one, the problem being science would probably only give me $50.00 for this old worn out shell. :P

A few weeks ago, while I was driving around in Detroit, I saw three different ones driving around on the same day.

I havn't seen one, but my wife did a couple weeks ago here in the Kalamazoo Mi., area. Probably in transit, we're right between Chicago and Detroit on I-94.

Guy from my town here has one and is driving it like he stole it..........

I'm not impressed either. I would much rather have seen GM introduce the UTE

I believe you may see a Holden based platform come to Chevrolet as a new name as performance answer to the demands of many. It may even be named Camaro, but I somehow doubt it. I was really surprised that GM introduced the Holden as a GTO. I figured Chevy would get the performance items first.

Oh yeah, I thought that the Avalanche was being considered an answer to the El Camino. It dang sure ain't a truck and it ain't a car, so what does that leave besides Ugly? I think that the A is the ugliest d%*n Chevrolet ever made.

I looked at getting a new Silverado this past year. The LS version with extended cab is well over $33,000.00. I think that the SSR starts at $45,000.00 with about 25,000.00 dealer mark up to close in on a 60 to $70,000.00 automobile.

I don't know who GM thinks will buy this thing but for that money I can get a vette. I am not going to buy a new truck either. I can't see $33,000.00 worth of value in their Pick-ups. I'd pay maybe $25,000.00 but that is the limit on any new car other than a Corvette.

For the record I think that the SSR is about the best looking vehicle GM has designed, other than a Vette, in 20 years. I like them.

the avalanche is a truck. way too big to be a car, and it is on a truck frame. i still think the ssr is the ugliest d%*n chevrolet ever made. i guess im out numbered here, but i just dont like it. its like when those damn pt cruisers came out. i hated them too. guess im just in a bad mood right now. but the A is on a truck frame and it is in the truck catalog. and something that bothers me is how they can call the H2 a hummer. it is on a tahoe frame!! it is not a real hummer. it is for people with more money than brains!! and theyll never know how much it sucks, because they will only drive on the street, and never get off the road the whole time they own it!!

Yeah i have to agree i think that the SSR is just plain ugly and WAY overpriced, for that much i'd get a vette and throw on a super charger get a couple extra sets of rear tires and still have thousands left over.
