I was thinking about getting a Pypes stainless catback, more specifically the one that uses a single converter. Would a muffler shop have any difficulty lengthening the stainless pipes to accomodate the longer El Camino wheelbase?

Any muffler shop should be able to make a pipe extension and either weld it (prefered) or expand the pipe and clamp it. If they can't then stay away from them because they're no muffler shop.

Yep, new converter. I just realized that I kind of half-assed my original post. The big question was if there would be any issue with the stainless pipes.

What does a Pypes stainless cat-back cost?

Joe, There are TWO Major Issues that would be of concern with Stainless
Exhaust Components ~~~ FIRST is that Stainless will FAR OUTLAST the standered type of system offered on the market, so if your NOT looking for something that will LAST, then stay away from stainless. (lol) But on a more serious note, the second issue would be with the installer you use for the installation of the Stainless system. Anybody can weld up a Stainless System with a wire feed, gas, or stick welder. BUT TO DO it right
they need to know Stainless welding, TIG being the best, with proper fill rod. Now your System will be as good as it gets. With the other types of welding, with steel filler, you will be pron to rust at the conection joints, and that will defeat the purpose of using Stainless in the first place. So should you decide to go with Stainless, go all the way, and don't throw your Money away by selecting a NON Qualified Installer that knows, and apreciates what it is you are trying to acomplish. YOU WILL NOT be disapointed should you go this route.

what would the difference in cost be between a full stainless system and another material offered on the market? do they use aluminum?

Spencer, To answer your Question safely Stainless would run Aprox. 4 X's the cost of your standard system. A Duel set-up, Stainless, Mandrel Bent, to the Rear, Average price ~~ $1100 to $1500, Show quality. And up from there. The other materials offered can vary from plain steel tubing, (cheapest) to the much better quality Aluminized, heavy gauge, steel tubing, (Little higher in cost, but not much). The heavier Aluminized also lasts aprox 4 times as long as the cheaper type, and Stainless you could say a LIFETIME. A good shop uses only the Aluminized, and the shops to lookout for use the cheaper stuff and charge about the same as the better shops for the Quality. There what you might call the "BUY CHEAP, SELL HIGH, MAKE THAT PROFIT type of shop. So it never hurts to do your homework, and ask questions. If they double talk, or skirt around your question, thank them for their time and RUN! Also the prices I used can vary depending on your location and of course competition in your local. And as far as an all Aluminum system, yes you can use Alum tubing if you wanted, but I haven't heard of an Alum. muffler yet, the problem with Alum. tubing is it's soft, and not practical.

Thanks Coyote, that was definately the info I was looking for. Maybe I should start looking at that aluminized Hooker system, it is the same price...
