: New England Regional Chevelle and El Camino Only Show
mnunn 04-21-2008, 05:20 PM Hey all.
3rd annual Chev-El show at Sturbridge Village is 15 & 16th of August at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Conference Center. Attendance has been growing every year as the word gets out.
This is "our show" and a chance to rub elbows with our sister models and no one else. Who knows, maybe we'll even get to see a real 1st gen elky instead of just reading about them. 8O
Here's the flier.

el Bandido 04-21-2008, 05:48 PM Mike,
Thanks for posting the flier -
YES guys this is THE SHOW to go to - I am already registered and I hope you ALL will p;an to be there !
I have been raving about this show for three years now and with good reason. Like Mike said this is El Caminos and Chevelles ONLY so you know we will be in good company... and the people who put the show together ---------- they define the owrd HOSPITABLE !
Heidi and I have gone up on Friday night the last two years - the club puts on a nice "social" at the hotel the night before and waking up "at the show" on Saturday makes for a less hectic day - I have to admit that we have never stayed Saturday night for the dinner.
Last year - NECOA took the Best Club Trophy -- this year I know we can do it again.
LeoC2 04-22-2008, 09:12 PM That's the weekend right after Truck Carlisle, I'm sure tempted though.
mnunn 05-15-2008, 05:09 PM Tempting me too, Leo.
Me too.
By then I should have my underhood detailing all done, the engine bearings replaced so I can make longer trips, and whooped up on MGS72Elky at least a few times by the time this show rolls around.
I'd love nothing more than to sneak a Massachussetts trophy away from "Mr. Majestic and the Caramel Camino" at a judged 1000 point car show. 8O
mgs72elky 05-15-2008, 06:26 PM You and the Ferrari Red Fluffanutter crack me up. :blahblah: :blahblah:
el Bandido 05-15-2008, 09:31 PM I love the way those two bicker - you would think they were brothers !
But as for you LEO -- please consider this a WRITTEN INVITATION...
Last year year there were two guys up from Region 1 (neither of them members !) I am sorry that you found out about this without a formal invitation to "cross the border".
This show also drew Chevelle people from as far away as Maryland and Virginia and even Canada - I cant say it LOUD ENOUGH --- this is a GREAT SHOW !
It is a fabulous opportunity for el Camino people to gather too - please Leo come and bring as many New Yorkers as you can - last time we discussed this show (two years ago when the Yankees were on top) I offered to buy you a coffee -- this time I'll buy you a real drink ! (Red Sox Nation is still celebrating)
We all would love to meet you and spend some quality time with some good people.
Tom
el Bandido
lcamino 06-07-2008, 06:39 AM Hmm, August 15th you say? Will think it over.
Rich
mgs72elky 06-07-2008, 06:20 PM Hey Rich, You getting close now with that resto? How about the 'All Chevy' Show on the 29th of this month? Looking foward to checking it out...
mnunn 06-10-2008, 06:09 PM By then I should have my underhood detailing all done, the engine bearings replaced so I can make longer trips, and whooped up on MGS72Elky at least a few times by the time this show rolls around.
As hoped, one down, All-Chevy show, to go. :P
mgs72elky 06-10-2008, 06:47 PM We'll see....
mnunn 07-01-2008, 05:39 PM Yes, I must tell the truth. Mark "inched" me out at the Chevy show, so I had crow for dinner Sunday night and humble pie for dessert. Good Job Mark!!
Tom, you've been here twice now. Regarding the judging at this Sturbridge show, do they let you keep the "rap sheet" at the end of the judging so you know what to work on when you get home?
el Bandido 07-01-2008, 07:28 PM It's a 1000 point scoring system and the guys who score your car take it point by point -- I have lost 25 points each year for "spare tire" (I don't have one)... and 25 points is like the most you can lose in any one area.
I am just glad the 1000 point system can't "dock" me for NO WINDSHIELD WIPERS ! !
To answer your question Mike - yes they give you your report card to take home - and your exactly right - it's your list of winter projects.
Glad you are planning to go this year - you know I think it is the best show of the year - only el Caminos and Chevelles ! --- Not to far from heaven.
el Bandido 08-02-2008, 09:39 PM Well guys - it's one week until my daughters Wedding and two weeks until the Car Show of the year - The Northeast Chevelle and El Camino Show.
This show is for Chevelles and el Caminos only !
Last year we got the trophy for best club and I am sure we can do it again this year.
Last year there were people there from as far away as Maryland and Montreal - there was a fantastic collection of some of the nicest vehicles that Chevy ever made - el Camino and Chevelles.
The people who run this show are genuinely hospitable people and welcome all participants as though we are all long lost brothers.
I want to encourage you ALL to make this show - the show itself is on Saturday August 16 -- they will have a social at the Sturbridge Inn (where the show is) Hotel on Friday night and most people will come and stay over-night on Friday and party Friday night - many people will stay for the dinner on Saturday night - neither of these social events is necessary or required but if you want to have a good time with a bunch or like minded people - join us. I am sure you will enjoy yourself.
The Show on Saturday is a 1000 point judged competition and I have found the judges to be knowledgable and consistantly honest.
I am not "pushing" this show ------ I am pushing you all to come and have a good time.
Hope to see you all there........

LeoC2 08-02-2008, 11:01 PM You know, I'm tempted. Truck Carlisle is next weekend and I had plans on attending but something has come up that might prevent me from going, so at the moment it's up in the air. If I can't make it to Carlisle I might come to Sturbridge the following weekend. I'll make hotel reservations for Friday night, I can always cancel them if I don't come.
Pro Street Garry 08-03-2008, 07:54 AM Looks like I'll be there again this year, looks like just Saturday...I'm sure it would be to late to get a room now?
sweeney153 08-03-2008, 09:13 PM I booked my room last night. Plenty of rooms for Fri night.
Pro Street Garry 08-04-2008, 11:30 AM I booked my room last night. Plenty of rooms for Fri night.
Thanks for the heads up....just booked a room!!!! http://www.scaldinghot.com/Boardpics/smokin.gif
mnunn 08-06-2008, 07:51 AM Hey all. Am still hoping to come on Saturday.
Thanks tommy for the judging info. Glad to hear that they can only mark me down 25 points for my unfinished bed.
As far as judging sheets, anyone want to do a little dry run self eval on your own car? Not sure which sheet the folks at Chev-El use (Tommy can let us know how close this matches his sheets from last year) but here's a 1000 point judging sheet that LeoC2 hooked us up with a while back http://fullsizechevynatls.tripod.com/id6.html that could be helpful in getting your cars ready.
Mike
mnunn 08-16-2008, 07:55 PM Good thing Tom doesn't have a "RAT" motor!!!!
Happy for you all and sorry I missed such a great show. Sounds like a great outing and delighted the weather turned out so much better than forecasted.
Congratulations to all who went!!!
:)
mgs72elky 08-16-2008, 09:06 PM Well Hey Guys, I'll second Mike's congrats. Glad you all did well and ended up with a great day to boot. Good deal. Yeah, you region 2 guys sure put foward some nice looking Elks.
Ernie, thanks for the pics, next best thing to being there. Although, I sure would have loved that show. Maybe next year I'll leave out 4 days early and get a motel after each hour of driving so I can eventually join you guys.
Tommy, forget the addition, you'll need to build a whole house just for all them 'El Bandido' trophies.
Congrats again to all.....
LeoC2 08-16-2008, 10:02 PM Congratulations to all! I wish I could have mode it. Maybe next year the schedule will be a different weekend.
el Bandido 08-17-2008, 08:31 PM Ernie --- thanks so much for the pics
Mike thanks for goin' easy on me and the new mascot
Mark thanks for not even mentioning the mascot
and Everyone.... what a Fabulous show first year about 5-6 Elkys
second year 10 --- this year 25 ! ! ! actually 40% of the registrations (club members do not register)
I say it every year - this is the best show of the year because these guys and these cars are "family" as soon as next years date is announced I will let you all know --- this should turn into the annual meeting of the tribe.
Good people, great cars, excellent event
Congrats to all the winners
mgs72elky 08-17-2008, 08:55 PM Actually Tom, I forgot about him. He's a cute little guy, but wouldn't be too cute if he ate into anything though. While possible, it's hard to imagine he rode all that way with you guys, must have been a 'Sturbridge' breed.
Glad you guys had fun and did well.....
mnunn 08-18-2008, 06:34 PM .....it's hard to imagine he rode all that way with you guys....... Bet your wife was just "speechless" when she found out!! I know mine would have been just hysterical....8O Probably would have insisted on a 100 mile cab ride or something.
.....this should turn into the annual meeting of the tribe......
I agree. It's centrally located for most of us. Great idea Tom! (Guess that's why you're the Regional Leader).
Maybe next year I won't chicken out because of a bad weather forecast.
Later,
Mike
el Bandido 08-18-2008, 06:56 PM I would never criticize anyone for deciding to avoid bad weather... other than a surprize storm on the way home from a show with Mark in Fairhaven - el Bandido has never been out in the rain (I don't even wash it)
However this show means so much to me that I made a conscious decision to drive in the rain Friday afternoon. I wouldn't do that for any other show. -- that's how great a weekend it is and that's my testimony to the guys who run it
Time and date of next years - will be posted as soon as its available.
For now - lets ALL begin making plans to get to Carlisle for the el Camino 50th Annivversary Celebration June 26 - 28, 2009
Pro Street Garry 08-19-2008, 08:01 AM Like everyone said this is a great show! :-D I went last year and did not stay over so this year we stayed on Friday GOOD TIME hanging with car people! All day Saturday I was wishing that we were staying again. So next year I'm going to make a weekend out of it.
It was nice seeing everyone again and a BIG Congrats to all the club members....
Nice Pics Ernie! I'll let you know when I post mine.
Tell next time
Garry
