I wanted to ask how difficult it is to remove the dash. Without looking closely, it almost appears as though it's one piece accross. It's maroon now and would like to swap out the interior for black.
Thanks & Aloha,
Scott

Welcome to the site. Here is a link to an older thread on the subject. HERE (http://elcaminocentral.com/ftopict-21023.html) At the top of the page you will see "SEARCH" the third word over. It is your friend. A little practice with it and you can find about anything you want to know about working on your 5th gen. Most How Tos have been discussed at length but if you can't find what your looking for don't be afraid to ask. We will only beat you up a little and then help you.

First off welcome to the site. Second, do for sure believe and use any help that 464ELKY gives, he is very knowledgeable for sure.

Given that he has never been razzed or picked on, on this site that I can remember!!! about anything he has done to his ride. But do ask him how to install any not normal application and he will have a diagram on doing that mod.Stock items ar just to easy and simple for Neil.

Hi Scott,
Hope you could find the information you are looking for using the search. I did this about 5 years ago, was not too hard, you have to remove the small bolts in the upper dash vents on both side, then remove 4 or 5 bolts underneath the dash. There are 2 more bolts that hold the dash to the steering wheel and the hardest part to remove is all of the wiring harness since it is attached to the inside of the dash with plastic clips. You have to take out the individual parts such as the instrument cluster, glove box, stereo & heater controls first, then the dash comes out as one piece. Simple to do just takes a little time to be sure all of the bolts and wires are loostend.
Let us know how it works for you. Are you gonna paint the dash black? Black dashes are very rare to find especially in a condition worth putting back into the restoration. The black interiors only came in a few years, maybe 78-81 or something like that. So good luck finding one, but you can probably use a black vinyl dye to repaint the original dash.
