Anyone have any pictures of the 1970 SS 396 engine compartment? I know the air cleaner and valve covers are not correct on mine. Are they the same as the chevelle? Maybe a silly question, but seeing as they have different hoods...

Same as a Chevelle of the same year with the same options

I don't think there was a custom trim option for the Chevelle in 1970. All the Chevelle super sports I've ever seen had the flaps on the hood. Am I wrong? No engine pics from anyone with a 70 SS?

As James stated above the hoods are the same on Chevelle and El Camino as long as they were same year and options .
You can visit : http://www.chevelles.com/forums/
and search there for some pics ,there's plenty of them there.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The thing is the hoods are not the same. I can't seem to find anything on a 1970 Chevelle SS with a custom trim option. This is the option that all 1970 SS el caminos had. It includes the cowl induction hood without flaps. The 1970 Chevelle SS hood has flaps.
so basically there is no 1970 Chevelle that has the same options. Unless by options you mean AC, ps, pb, etc. But even still, would the custom trim package (aka Custom Pickup) include changes in engine detail?
I was just hoping someone who has a 1970 SS el camino can confirm or deny...

The hood you have is just a cowl hood ,not a cowl induction, which is the same hood I have on mine (cowl w/o flaps) the cowl induction has flaps.
Some of the SS models came without the flaps, and just a cowl /or SS hood on them.

Cowl induction(flapper)hoods and cowl hoods were both available 70-72.

thanks, guys! Those 2 posts cleared up my confusion, sorry. My father told me that the cowl hood came with the custom trim option. The Chevelle site is saying that the cowl induction was an extra option. My father has been wrong before, or could be I didn't hear him right as usual. So I need to find out what an air cleaner and valve covers look like for a L79 with cowl hood without cowl induction.
thanks again

Although I cannot say for certain, logic would be that a L79 SS without the RPO ZL2 cowl induction hood would have the standard single snorkel air cleaner as well as the standard painted valve covers.
