: Corvette wheels on a 83 Elky
Lente 01-07-2004, 08:15 AM Hello has anyone ever tried to put corvette or camaro wheels on a G-Body elky. I was looking at some 17-9 ss camaro and the 18-9 corvette wheels. I think the vette wheels are 52mm offset so I quess I will need adaptors. Any ideas what size adaptors and will these wheels even work? Right now I got 17x9 rallye wheels on it and they work fine unless I turn real sharp then I get a little rub. Any help greatly app. thanks Corey.
87ElCamino 01-07-2004, 10:42 AM First let me say that I have not tried to put Corvette rims on an Elky. Your Elky likes a rim with no more than 4.0" of backspacing. Any more than that and it'll probably rub. A few quick calculations show that you'd need a minimum of a 2.8" spacer to get the Corvette rims to fit. This does not take into consideration tire bulge which may add a bit more to the spacer size.
+52 mm offset / 25.4 mm = +2.05" offset
9" wide rims / 2 = 4.5" centerline
4.5" centerline + 2.05" offset + 0.25" wheel lip = 6.8" backspacing
6.8" - 4.0" = 2.8" wheel spacer
My $.02
Alchemist 01-09-2004, 07:22 PM If you're thinking C4 or C5 rims...there's WAY too much offset to safely overcome with adapters!!! BUT...i put a set of spare C3 rims on...no problem! 8-)
Elky85 01-11-2004, 11:19 PM yeah C4 and C5 wheels, not to mention 93-02 camaro wheels are off limits. which sucks cause i would like to see some polished Z06 wheels on an elky
PPhem 01-12-2004, 04:32 AM i actually saw a pair of corvette wheels on an el camino the other day. it was at a busy intesection so i couldn't ask. i was curious myself and was going to post the same question
ElkyPete 01-12-2004, 10:53 AM If you swapped out the rear axel with one that was about 6 to 8" wider (overall) then you'd be able to mount them on the rear. Maybe they make a Rack & Pinion set up that would be wide enough to put under the front to accomidate the Wheels for the front.
Wonder what that would look like as far as stance goes?
greywolf 01-13-2004, 03:42 PM There's one locally that uses Camaro wheels, probably mid '80. I like the way the center of the spokes is painted body color.
NASTYN8 02-02-2004, 08:24 PM WHats up yall?Im a new proud owner of a 77 classic and am taking the c5 chrome set off my s-10 and going to put them on the elky!! Good idea i got sat night after i bought it. hehe
86camino 02-02-2004, 09:00 PM yeah i was told by a few people that in order to run the c4 or c5 wheels you need some big spacers. that is why i didn't bother looking for any.
NASTYN8 02-02-2004, 10:19 PM Yea in order for them to fit the s-10 i had 2-3/4" spacers upfront and 2.5" out back till i did a rear end swap, now the rear bolts right up to the brakes perfectly!
86camino 02-03-2004, 06:38 PM me peronally i wouldn't use a spacer that big b/c then you aren't riding on the hub but rididn on the lugs.
pinstripebob 02-19-2004, 07:33 PM Is it really that bad to ride on lugs, not the hub?
86camino 02-19-2004, 08:14 PM yeah. the lugs can break with all that weight on them.
Alchemist 02-21-2004, 06:08 AM yeah. the lugs can break with all that weight on them.
http://home.pacbell.net/zippom/iagree.gif I've seen it happen...and it AIN'T "pretty"!!!!! http://fool.exler.ru/sm/str.gif
Tommy 02-21-2004, 07:16 AM A guy I know has a C5. I looked at his rims, I couldn't believe how much back spacing they have.
