: Hemi57 is on the road with EARLE - pics
hemi57 05-17-2008, 05:59 PM For those members who have read my posts would know that I have been working on getting my El Camino Australian Street legal & roadworthy since getting it back in February 2007. Well it is a little belated, but I am pleased to report EARLE was registered on 2nd May so we are mobile.
The delay in posting up pics was due to me waiting to complete a few cosmetic improvements (cut & polish, wheel caps, wheel chrome trims, etc.). Wouldn't you know it? I wanted to take pics and it has been raining steadily all weekend but what the hey? The pics turned out okay even though EARLE was soaking wet and it was actually raining when the photos were taken.
Feedback and comments welcome :P

454COR 05-17-2008, 07:44 PM Very appropriate name for a beautiful 4th gen
Earl
hemi57 05-17-2008, 07:57 PM Thanks for the comments so far.
Hey Earl, my preference was to get EARL plates but they had gone so I settled with EARLE.
gr8efx 05-17-2008, 08:17 PM She's a beaut ute. Gud onya mate.
Sorry John, you probably hate people doing things like that. Mind you, try being Pommie born and living in Kentucky
amp88fan 05-17-2008, 08:27 PM very nice mate! i cant wait to get my girl on the road...maybe by next month this time...*crosses fingers and prays to god*

oz camino 05-17-2008, 09:23 PM Very Nice.. gives me something to aim for,
How much work has it taken to get it to what looks like pristine condition ( amazed you rolled it out in the rain :P ) or did you import with out to much to do?
Interested also in what you have had to do, to get through VIC compliance and rego?
Love the wheels and the plates sets it off nicely.
hope to see in the flesh some day

mgs72elky 05-17-2008, 10:39 PM John, John, John, i'm dissapointed in you bud. You get that fine looking Elk all spruced up and then put it out in the rain. In fact, can see the rain coming down in the second pic, kinda makes me cringe. Came out beautiful John, bet your glad that part of the journey is done with. Sharp looking Elk...
szonk 05-17-2008, 11:08 PM Looks great man ! Now go put that beauty in the carport and towel her nice and dry. BTW, how are petrol prices holding up in Oz ?
464elky 05-18-2008, 05:53 AM I know from reading your posts it has been a long hard battle but it sure turned out awesome.
Now enjoy!
Just remember - another 3 to 9 years it might be finished. LOL
PaPa Johns 77 05-18-2008, 07:01 AM 8) I can only hope mine turns out half as nice as yours John!
Really a clean look and great color combination! It was well worth the wait to see it finished! Enjoy the ride! (if it ever stops raining that is  )
hemi57 05-18-2008, 03:49 PM Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Trust me, the photos are very kind to EARLE, a bit like a celebrity or model (although without the airbrushing  ), and they hide a multitude of sins. No way EARLE is pristine but from a distance EARLE does look a picture :-P
Another thing I need to come clean on is, EARLE is no Garage Prince. Rain, hail or baking sun EARLE is exposed to it all. szonk, I don't even have a carport to park in and it will be my main daily driver.
PapaJohn, that was the colour scheme when I got it and I like it. Real period scheme I reckon. Oh and with the 10+ years of drought here, no one complains about the rain (except maybe us car guys eh :P )
464, you are right mate, still lots to do and quite probably never ending.
Mark, don't be too disappointed mate, El Caminos are made of tough stuff.
gr8efx, you pommy B!@#$%^. I am actually one too.
Quintonsdusty 05-18-2008, 04:17 PM John,
Really nice! He (since Earle is a guy's name) is a dandy. I expect you'll be tough competition for other 4th gens in the 2009 calendar.
Jim
dougs85 05-18-2008, 06:21 PM Congratulations John on a great-looking Elky and nice pictures too.
Doug
a73elkyss 05-18-2008, 07:23 PM Fantastic looking John. You did "EARLE" proud..... :) You gotta love those 4th gen's. The stance just looks like it is moving fast when it is just standing still. 8)
Congrats and enjoy.
Jay
Caveman49 05-18-2008, 09:30 PM Fine looking ride John, patience has paid off. Enjoy Earle!
Tuggy24g 05-18-2008, 09:46 PM Wow never like that body style until I saw your El Camino!!!! WOW man that is one beautiful El Camino man!
elcamino74guy 05-18-2008, 10:45 PM Awesome, Great job and congrats on finally getting past
'the man"
Looks great. You'll be happy to know that I've seen it's twin over here in the states. Sans the cool tire and wheel combo roaming around my neighborhood. Guy drives it every day and he keeps it clean...
:D
hemi57 05-19-2008, 07:20 PM Jim, Doug, Jay & Lee, thanks for the kind words mates.
Tuggy, Brad, I am flattered. Me, a 4th gen ambassador  I would have never thought it. Aussie El Camino ambassador maybe. I better change the wording on my business cards. :P
James, glad you like the wheels & tyres. I certainly was setting out to get the right designs for the mid '70s.
eliselky383 05-19-2008, 07:47 PM old earl there is a real dapper dan great job enjoy enjoy enjoy 8)
