The '87 Monte I bought is supposed to be towed tomorrow and I am wondering. I've heard it's not a good idea to tow a rear drive car from the front without dollies on the rear tires even if the car is in Neutral.
Should I remove the driveshaft if I am planning to use the 200r4 if the tow guy doesn't have the means to pull it from the rear or dolly the rear?
Let me know!

Scott, If he IS a towing service, he will tow it from the rear, (simplest) use dollies, remove drive shaft, or flat bed the car. Those are your only CORRECT OPTIONS. Notice I said CORRECT!

If you are only going a few miles you will probably be fine. the problem is there is no lubrication for the tranny while towing. Safest way is to unhook the driveshaft.

listen to these guys ! you will fry your tranny if u tow it in nuetral especially if u are going over 35 mph ! your best option is to trailer it or get a rollback to haul it but you could remove the dtiveshaft and if you have an extra front drveshaft spline then slide it in and tie it in place or duct tape it so the tranny fluid doesn't leak everywhere . .Good luck !!

 as long as you keep the speed below 35 mph, and the distance to a few miles, you are ok to tow from the front with an automatic in neutral. however i highly recommend that you have the tow truck driver tow from the rear, or use a flatbed.

Just wanted to add this.
I told the guy I am buying the Monte SS from that towing the SS from the front w/o disconnecting the driveshaft would cook the tranny and since I plan to use that 200r4, I want to disconnect the d/s before he tows it to my place. His response was, "oh, uh, can you just disconnect it after we tow it to your place?"
:? NO COMMENT!
On another note:
I will be pulling the d/s off the rear end, wiring it up out of the way before they pull it back out on the freeway.
They already towed it yesterday about 20 miles in traffic from the front..
Thanks for all the input!!

Scott, You just said "NO COMMENT" ! and he's a tow truck operator! Sounds like the cashier at the local Burger Joint that can't make change without the Register, or a Calculator telling them the amount. All I can add is THIS COUNTRY IS IN BIG TROUBLE IN THE NEXT 20 OR SO YEARS.

:-) Pulled the drive shaft, but before that I tried to wire it up and it fell on my right eye. Got 5 stitches out of it!
