Hi, My grandfather owned a 1976 El Camino Classic\ red\ 64k miles\ all stock.

I was wondering what engines the 76 Classic came with?

Could it have a big block?

thnx, fred

well i just looked it up in the parts catalog, and looks like the 76 A-bodies came with 305s, 350s, and 454s. i didnt think they wouldve had 454s as recently as 76 but it says it right there.

I really don't think that a Big Block was an option in 76.

Check here also; http://www.chevelles.com/elcamino/ec_engine.htm

You're absolutely right Pete. There was no big block offered in the 76 Elky.

Five engines were available in the 76 El Camino.

250 1-bbl L6-L22 105 HP ( Standard Six )
305 2-bbl V8-LG3 140 HP ( Standard V8 )
350 2-bbl V8-L65 145 HP
350 4-bbl V8-LM1 165 HP (California only)
400 4-bbl V8-LT4 175 HP

i looked it up in the parts catalog, and under engine block, it had the 454 option. you guys are far more informed about el caminos than me :( , but im just telling you what the GM catalog said for 76 A-bodies. ooo hockey is on. i got to go.
