: Hit 200,000 miles today
Spirit of 76 06-04-2008, 01:56 PM Hi all, I don't post much here, just lurk a lot, but I hit a milestone today in my 76. 200,000 miles :D I'm curious, how many others are in the 200K club and I'd love to hear from those that have HIGH mileage on their Elkys/Caballeros/Sprints as well?
Post up your high mileage rides. If I've missed a thread on this already sorry in advance.
El Corvino 06-04-2008, 02:28 PM My car... well? What can I say?
Its on a 3rd frame... 2nd set of doors, brand new fenders, wheel wells, new nose, 2nd dash at 76K, 2nd motor on first rebuild... My car has about 200K worth of action on it.

old_coot 06-05-2008, 08:11 AM I think my El Camino is the only thing I have with less than 200,000 on it---its just a baby at 145,000 and running as fine as a 305 can so its getting a 406 and fuel injection----just cause I want it.............Dan
350elky1981 06-05-2008, 11:50 AM Good job takin care of it! This is the only car I have that I think I'll swap the engine before 200K, I'm only at about 147K now.
Bowtie 06-06-2008, 02:55 PM I'm like El Corvino. My cruck should see 200,000 some day, but the only thing on it original will be the VIN plate. :D
Take care.
Maddening 06-06-2008, 07:24 PM My '71 has 168,000 hard Alaskan (and one AK to NM and back trip by previous owner for college) miles on it! So really it's more like 500,000 miles in terms of abuse! :P
And now that I think about it, the engine, tranny and rear diff are all newer, so maybe I can't play this game.
dougs85 06-06-2008, 08:53 PM Well I have got this 100 year-old hammer that is just like new. Replaced the handle and the head a few times but still the same hammer. :P

diesel camino 06-09-2008, 09:00 AM The diesel camino has 219,000 and change but there again practicly everything on it has been rebuild or replaced. Engine was replaced with GM new replacement not long before my dad bought it. Transmission, rear end and all steering components were rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. I'm taking the body work down to the bare metal right now getting it ready for it's third paint job. So far I have found no evidence of any accidents other than one slightly compressed front bumper shock, just a couple of small spots of rust.

El Monstero 06-19-2008, 02:34 AM 1978 305 over 168k starting to smoke out
of exaust, but has lots of power.
Im going to buy a crate engine,
one with 400 hp. Just think of some
of these cars age's there old and worn
out, it's amazing they are still running so good.
elcamino74guy 06-19-2008, 05:23 AM My 74 has got about 155K but it's going to have it's 4th transmission, I'm on the second engine but I still have the original. Just waiting to be able to rebuild it the way I want. It's on the third paint job since it was new. The body itself except for right rear quarter is the most original part of it.
:D
ppilotmike 06-19-2008, 10:33 AM When I sold my 69' it had 530.000 miles on it. I bought it with 100K from the original owner, a rental yard, in 79'. I sold it in 2002. I went thru the engine twice and replaced that with a used one which was in it at the time of sale. The one that amazed me was the TH350. I replace the original at 250K with a factory replacement and it was still working when I sold it. Chevy trucks really are tough to kill.
Quintonsdusty 06-19-2008, 10:43 AM Well, mine has 109,000ish and it will never see 200k if I keep her for the next 20 years. It might get 2,000 per year in a busy year. If I buy a trailer, that will drop to a few hundred per year at best.
elcamino74guy 06-20-2008, 01:28 AM Yeah since I changed mine from primary car to project car I'm lucky to put 1000 miles a year on it now. I'm just now getting to 70K on the second engine which I put in in Dec of 1991. 55K of that mileage was from daily driver duty.
The heck with gas prices, I spend more money on repairs and upgrades than I ever will on gas. If I spent any time figuring out the $$$ chances are it would be something like $150 a mile!
:D
szonk 06-20-2008, 11:10 AM 209,000 miles on my '85 de-smogged 305, rear seal leaks a little but still good comp. on all 8. All in all runs pretty strong. Tow vehicle for a 17' Boston Whaler. I don't really baby the thing, VERY dependable, never fails to start, never stranded. Can't ask for much more other than if gas prices become stable I would love to drop a 5.7 crate in it...
Mr86Camino 06-24-2008, 07:30 AM I just turned 262,000 on my Elky. It has the original 305 engine and has never been overhauled. I replaced the timing chain way back at 150,000 miles but that is all. I don't know how far it will go but I plan to find out. I bought the Elky with just 40,000 miles back in 1991 so I know the history of the car.
82Ellie 06-24-2008, 09:18 AM Wow, before reading this I knew mine had pretty low mileage, I didn't realize HOW low! I only have about 96K right now. Bought her with about 84K on her. I'm swapping the engine this summer though, because the guy I bought her from had her sitting for 8 years, and every year it seems like there's another engine problem that crops up. :)
Tuggy24g 06-24-2008, 09:40 PM WOW just from this forum I have the lowest miles on mine around 76000. my little 305 got redone and runs like brand new!
