Hello All -

What is the best OD swap for the Elco? I have read that the 700R4 is popular...what about the OG4E (?) used in the later Tahoes and Suburbans?

Not sure what the 0G4E tranny is, but, if its later then a 92 model year it will require an electronic control of some sort. Either the computer that came with the vehicle or an aftermarket controller. These aint cheap. Your best bet if you stay automatic is a 700R4 or a 2004R. Some later elkys came with the 2004R. So finding the crossmember and realted swap parts might be had in a junkyard. Both of these transmissions need an electronic torque convertor lock up kit. Easy and cheap to install. Several aftermarket companies make them. Good luck.

Thanks Tom,

I ment the 4L60-E / 4L65-E. These were produced in 1991-2 for rear-wheel drive cars (medium duty). I like the gear ratios on the 200-R4. They are tighter that a 700. I think the 700 has a deeper first gear @ 3.08:1. The OD is taller in a 200 @ .75:1 vs. .7:1 in the 700. I have seen awsome builds for the 700 using the 3/4 ton pressure drum and input shaft. Something like 44 mods to withstand 500+ HP.

You'll find the 4L60E in 93 to 2002 Camaro's and Firebirds too. Same tranny was used on both the 6 and 8 cylinder models.

Worth a look if you're hunting the parts yards.

4l60e is a electrical controlled tranny and would need a controller to turn the solonoids on and off to shift the 700r can be had with or with out lockup convertor ck out bowtieoverdrive .com
