I was just checking out the goodmark site and noticed that they are currently in the process of tooling repo doors and door skins for 5th gens so they should be available soon, no price listed. This should be a big help to us 5th gen guys who need new doors.

If they take as long to retool for the El Camino doors as they did for the 82-88 MCSS cowl hood, we'll see the final product around 2007. I sent them an e-mail asking for more info. I'll post their reply here.

Here's the response from Goodmark:

Working on the tooling on the door skins, should be out around the end
of 2004...price yet to be determined.

Well, I followed up with the Goodmark folks to see if any progress has been made on the tooling and if they had finalized a price on the doors and door skins. Here is their reply.

No date yet on when the tooling will be completed...sorry! We are still
several months away. Keep tabs on our website for updates.

I'll contact them again in a few months.

I'll contact them again in a few months.
I e-mailed the good folks at Goodmark again. I think they're getting sick of hearing from me. This is their latest response:

No updates at this time...sorry! We'll update the website when we have
more information.

It's now been 11 months. Goodmark has taken the Malibu/El Camino door skin notice off the "new-products" page on their site. They are no longer promoting them. I e-mailed them again (for the 4th time) asking when they would be available and here is their response:

The project was put on hold until some other stuff got made first. No date yet on when the doors will be back on live status...we'll post on the website when we have more updates.

Goodmark

Sounds like the Goodmark Malibu/El Camino door skin project is dead.

Post their email address and lets flood them with requests...maybe they'll take the hint.

I've been sending my questions to info@goodmarkindustries.com but I've never gotten a name of anyone from Goodmark on their responses.

I'll bet they'll raise an eyebrow or two if they get a thousand or more friendly e-mails from NECOA members asking them to speed up their retooling process! Please, do not send them a flaming e-mail or they'll just disregard it and think we're all kooks.

Let's do it!

called them today myself (12-30-04) still no firm time... guy told me they are lacking in experienced toolers etc... in Taiwan. Why they don't make them where they were originally (Mexico or Canada with NAFTA inplace beets me) price estimate was $350 for a full shell, time estimate was unknown :(

They are telling you a different story than they told me. Lots of their sheet metal products are stamped overseas.

I also dropped a line to Sherman & Associates to see if they or Crosscanada have any plans for doorskins/shells as well as tailgates. Guess we will see what they say? :)

87ElCamino

That's too bad. Sherman lists the full door skins in the 78-83 Malibu section as 710-13AL and 710-13AR but doesn't show a price for them. They do list the lower door skin for $41.50 each.

maybe if some of us who are seriously interested started (as stated above by someone) an email/phone campaign, we could show them how many customers are truly waiting... $$$ is the best motivator

Hey Ernie,
Does either of these companies supply Tailgate skins?

87ElCamino
01-04-2005, 07:07 AM
No they don't. I haven't been able to locate a supplier of tailgate skins for 4th or 5th gens. I know there are reproduction tailgate skins available for 2nd and 3rd gens.

Howard

Here is the reply I got from Sherman & Associates...regarding 5th gen door skins and tailgates...

"I am expecting to start getting a door skin for that vehicle. It will be part # 710-13A. We are also planning on eventually carrying a tailgate for that vehicle as well. As of right now I haven’t even gotten pricing on it, but it is something we are going to make an effort on. It will be part # 710-71"

nothing concrete yet I guess :-(

87ElCamino
01-07-2005, 02:11 AM
I think Sherman & Associates is in cahoots with Goodmark Industries. That's pretty much what Goodmark said about their door skins. I'll bet they are both getting them from the same supplier.

01-07-2005, 06:35 AM
If you have contacts there, please let them know that we need INSIDE tailgate skins. I have 2 tailgates that are pretty good outside, and trash inside. Most of the ones I have seen recently on ebay (including the clown that wants $175 for that piece of junk he has out there now) are the same.

The other one on eBay right now (the green one) was in a fire, and the metal is suspect. The paint is bubbling and the inside is not as clean as his pictures indicate. I bought it from the guy and had to return it. He was cool about it and gave me pretty much all my money back. Good vendor, lousy gate.

help me out guys... what is a fair price for a clean (no rust) 5th Gen complete door minus glass and rubber? finally found one close to home, but am unsure on what to offer

dabirdguy

I paid $150 for one with power windows and locks. It was TOTALLY rust free and absolutely clean.
No glass, handle or mirror.

thanks birdman... going to chk on it today

I've been contacting Goodmark for over a year... same story... "wait 6 months or so"... "by the end of next year" they are really missing out on alot of $$$ maybe I should've gotten a Nova to rebuild

bbailey_33

went and looked at a "clean" driver's door... I thought it was virgin before I got there, but it was as bad as mine before they welded the S out of it... no treatment inside, had Conqista nipples, not that great a job either... and he wanted $400... needless to say, I left. I'm tired of waiting on Goodmark and the used junk that is out there so I've worked out a deal with my Paint & Body guy to repair mine. I need some tips on door removal though, because I'm trying to save on some labor cost. Is there any gotchas I need to look out for? or just bang the pins out.

p.s. I'll put this on the Body forum as well... the guy makes his own rear roll pans and tailgate outer skins, fit really nice on his Elky, I'll post pics when I get mine added

Don't try to bang the pins out. Safely remove the spring in the top hinge first. I just pry it out. Remove any electrical harnesses for PW and PDL. Have someone support the door with a floor jack. Remove the three bolts from the upper and lower hinges on the door side. It's off. A ten minute job if there's no harness to remove.

thanks 87... I need all the tips I can get, no power anything, so it seems even easier.. I will be putting in new pin rebuild kits also and I heard someone speaking of some tricks there, but can't remember now...
the second question is "any tips on re-install with new pins?"

Well, here we are 18 months after this thread was started and still no doors or door skins from Goodmark. Well, it's been twenty-one months since Goodmark first teased us with the thought that reproduction 5th gen door skins were right around the corner.

I've been bugging Goodmark again about the door skins. Here is the latest status report I received today on the availability of the door skins. It doesn't look like they will be available in the near future.

Not close yet...other projects are taking priority...maybe around the middle to end of 2006. Stay tuned to our website for updates.

Not sure if these are ready yet full door shell $510.ea or full door skin for $172. I'm thinking since they are in red they may not quite be ready.

It's now been 26 months since the original rumor of Goodmark selling repro doors and door skins for 5th gens. I e-mailed my contact at there yesterday and here is the latest information.

We are supposed to get samples of the door in June. Stay tuned for further updates.

8) Good Lord Ernie! You would think that they would have expedited this a long time ago when you consider how many people that are waiting to order! They will be lucky to keep up with the backlog of the first two years of the run! Every month they wait more and Elky's or Bu's get scrapped because of bad doors and no replacements. :(

Someone calling the shots at Goodmark definetly has his head up his butt. I'm beginning to think they never had any intentions of making these doorskins or inner shells when they first said they did. They've even run out of excuses to use.

If they don't do something soon we're going to run out of doors to put on our elk's. The doors on my 86 are original and my dad drove it around for years with trashed window rubbers. Therefore the bottoms rotted out although the outer skin was fine the bottom frame of the door was just gone. A buddy built new bottoms using a template and a steel break and they work great. They look a little rough if you get under the car from all the bondo but its a 20' car anyways so it works. Only doors I've ever seen for sale people want 800 a pop for em. Crazy

MrCryptic
09-11-2008, 09:59 AM
800? wow, if anything ever happens to my doors, ill just weld them shut, make them part of the body and leave my windows down. Then paint it orange and put a flag on the top. Get a big "01" on the side.

One of my doors needs some body work attn, but they also need some rust attention, im hoping its not to bad.
