I'm in Louisville, not really western but way closer to Owensboro or Bowling Green than I am Pikeville or Hazard.

I'm not it in western Kentucky, but I have a lot of family down there. I'm in northern Kentucky in Pendleton County. About 10 miles northwest of the big city of Falmouth. I don't see too many nice El Caminos around here. I bet you see even less. Here its mostly Mustangs and diesel trucks.

Welcome to the site robertm. Don't let the old man catch you putting his lawn mower gas in the elky so you can run it when he is not looking! LOL
That gives you a year to get the brakes, steering and suspension checked out and in shape to make it safe before you hit the road.
You can always get advise here - even if it is some you weren't quite ready for.

edit: Watch out for 1badelky! He is a couple of years ahead of you.
