This past week I was driving on Rt. 20 from Jackson to Vicksburg and saw a First Gen El Camino parked at a building on the frontage road next to the highway. I pulled off the highway and doubled back on the frontage road to take a look at it. It was a 1960. It was a pale yellow color with four flat tires.

The owner came out of the building when he saw me looking at it. Pretending not to know much about it, I asked what year was it and is it for sale. He said "It's a 1961 and it's pretty rare". I pretended not to know that there were no El Caminos made in 61. I asked if he would mind if I took a few pictures and he let me. As soon as they're developed I'll post one or two here.

I drove that same strip of road a couple of years ago. What the heck were you doing in Vicksburg? Not much there but battlefield!

I was going to the Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg to have supper at their buffet. All last week I was working in Clinton, MS. I do quite a lot of traveling around the country for my company.

I finally had the film developed. Here are some pictures of the 60 El Camino from Mississippi. It has four flat tires from sitting in the same spot for the last 10 years.

He said it wasn't for sale. I guess it'll sit there for another 10 years.

I think you're wrong there. The pictures came up OK for me on the forum. Did anyone else have a problem seeing them?

correct, and since you probably viewed them before you posted, they were stored in your computers cashe so thats another reason why you can see them and nobody else can. It is a well known fact that Geocites, Tripod and I think Anglefire also will not allow off site hosting.

Wow, what a waste

He must think it's going to be worth more in another ten years. I'm going back to Mississippi in a few weeks. I'll check on it again.

The week I took those pictures I also got a few pics of a few nice 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation Elkys in Mississippi. I'll have to post those too. The only generation Elky I didn't see that week was a 2nd generation.

Well, It's a 60, and if it's the one by the Edwards exit on the right of the westbound lane, Its been there closer to 20 years. I saw it on my first trip to the Casinos in 92.
The first group of pics came up for me no problem.

Hey, that looks like a 60 El Camino. They are very rare. You know they only made the 1960 for one year?:poke:

...Of course they only made the 1999 Toyota Camary for one year as well.

Y'all can have a good laugh on me.:dontknow: I was reading everyone's welcoming posts and saw similar threads listed at the bottom of the page. I clicked on the first one without noticing the date, and just had to stick my $.02 in.

Hey Alleycat, if the 61 Elky is still there then your calculation are correct. Since the 1st post was in 03 and it had been there 10 yrs already, add 8 years to that and your pretty darn close. So, is it there or not? I kinds like the Chevy luv in the background with that big ol visor and the stepside. Was that a 1970 or 1971 model? BTW, I have a 1980 Ranchero for sale if anyone's interested..

After thinking about it for a while, it occurred to me that I haven't seen those vehicles there for the last year or so. We passed by there on our way to Vicksburg late yesterday afternoon just to make sure, and sure enough, they're gone. Could be inside the building, because it looks like it's the same type of business. Repair / chop shop. Anybodys guess, and nobody around to ask.

Pictures looked fine. You don't see many 1960's around anymore. Thanks for going back and getting pictures of the ElCamino. I enjoy looking at all ElCamino's.
