Hello,
I have a '79 305. I have a weird squealing sound coming out louder day after day. When i press the break pedal, it disappears. I can press it very gently (like almost not using the breaks) and it's gone. As soon as i release the pedal, it's on again. The sound is coming out of the driver's side front wheel. Any idea what it could be?

EDIT: appeared after i changed my front tires.

Sounds like a brake pad wear indicator.

I agree 100%. Time for new pads.

Thanks for your replies. I've checked and indeed, i really need new pads. I might also need to change the discs.
Any recommendations? We're talking budget here. I also have 14" rims, so i guess i can't but extra wide discs/rotors.

Brake rotors have a service limit based on thickness. They need to be measured to determine if resurfacing is possible. If still thick enough, they can be resurfaced on a lathe. If not, they should be replaced. Changing to something other than the standard size get's involved and is not what you call "budget".

Most auto parts stores do brake drum and rotor (disk) resurfacing.
