ok i have an 85 with a 305. does anyone know if i have to lift the engine to pull the pan out?would apperciate the help thanks guys

Yes, The pan sits to close to the frame to clear the oil pump & pickup.

http://home.pacbell.net/zippom/iagree.gif You MAY be able to get enough clearance by disconnecting the motor mounts and jacking up the engine...but it's still gonna be tight.

You do have to lift the engine. When you do, you will probably need to pull the distributor cap, and possible the transmission dipstick tube holder because it will hit the firewall. The negative battery cable may also need to be removed if the cable is short.
