kind of a newbie question. i was checkin out caveman's 74- very beautiful car, nice work man- and i was tryin to pick out all the similarities and differences between it and my 73. from what i see, it's not too much.. front bumper, front clip, side mirrors..
if anybody can help with anymore similarities/differences it would be much appreciated. had my hands on a 74 for a bit but i changed my mind. thanks

Welcome to ECC / NECOA.

You pretty much covered the differences. Very little changed between 73 and 77. There were some small esthetic changes but overall no major changes during that time frame that I am aware of.

Good to see another 4th Generation Owner come on board.

Thanx Dez, but you wouldn't recognize it now. It's getting ready for a frame up resto.
How long have you had your 73? As Pete said, not much difference at all between the 73-77, although I haven't had the opportunity to check out many others. All the folks that have em or the yards say they are all interchangable.
Welcome to the site and anything I can help with just let me know.

i've had the elky since mid 97... decent shape, not much rust cuz they don't use salt on the roads in wyoming... now i'm in missouri, where emissions are a pain and the rusting floorboard is my main concern.

i rebuilt the motor a couple years ago and it just ate through its second tranny... so, there's a long list of things i'd like to do.. just gotta find a place to work on it :)

hope the resto goes well... have a good'n

Hi'ya dezaster! And Welcome!!!

Know the trouble you're havin' finding a place to work! Wish there was a garage in MY area that rented space too. But for the time...i guess the driveway's already got plenty of oil stains...so can't do MUCH more damage! http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/1203.gif

Some changes in the rear also. Even though that body style was not as popular as the others, I have always liked them. Welcome to a great site.

Its the image of the mid 70's vehicles that taint the actual beauty of the 73-77 Models. I think the bodies are really nice, just as nice as any other El Camino Model. People think they are big and have this long front end but they actually don't. I think the 59 models were one of the biggest Elky's made. 112" overall. It was larger than the big Caddy of the time.

The biggest problem I see with this generation is finding parts and that has gotten better since I first got mine.

Pete, the 59 Elky had a wheelbase of 119" and an overall length of 210.9".

There was a complete Front End sitting on a stand at a Junk Yard here in Ft. Worth called "Little Johns" is on e. 1st street. That was when I was hunting down parts. I almost got it from him. I needed the two tone trim and he wouldn't sell me just the trim I had to get the whole front end. That was several years ago. He had several 4th generation Elkys in his yard at that time and lots of the same generation Monty Carlos. Most had been stripped.

The front end was covered in that Wood Grain paper stuff poeple use to like.

Pete, the 59 Elky had a wheelbase of 119" and an overall length of 210.9".
I knew that!

I looked at a 73 yesterday that is minus engine and xmission but the body is in good shape overall. Interior usable with buckets (unknown brand). All this for $300 and a drive and pickup in Augusta Ga. 10 1/2 to 11 1/2 hrs from St. Louis. If you are interested in it maybe I can bring it up when I head up to Webster Groves later this year. From one 4th gen. camino owner to another, Welcome dez!
I can only agree with what's been said, the 4th gen. are just
as beatiful as any camino and parts are hard to find,
especially if you live in Sweden, like me.
Been looking for the top trim of the tailgate since I bought my -76 classic.

Sorry about the lack of storage space but I do understand. I have most of the family up there in Webster,Maplewood and South St.Louis so we get up there a couple of times a year. Next time we head up there I'll try to meet up with you in Old Webster or somewhere like that. JJ73

Up here in northern Ohio there is a junkyard called Kohlmans Auto Wrecking that has 4 or 5 73-77 in really good shape. (I personally don't see a reason they are junked.) They are at 4276 W Darr Hopfinger Rd
Port Clinton, OH 43452-9532 Phone: (419)734-6586 . Also did anyone look at e-bay last week? There was 1 73 classic, 1 73 ss, and 1 77 ss . at the end of the auction they were still only $1.00 for all 3 ,but I had no way of getting them from Portland Oregon to Sandusky ,Ohio.

Good to see another good 4th gen thread. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a good parts car at a great price. I'll also have to talk the in-laws into letting me store a parts car at their place. I already keep my 74 in the garage and park my daily out on the driveway.
