I just found a 5th gen Elky for sale - I need some advice as to what others might think it's worth.

It's an SS with the Choo-choo package (I think it's an 86). 89,000 miles - one owner older gentleman. The body is really straight with only a couple parking lot dings and no rust that I can see. The paint is in good shape for an 18 year old car (original) - it could use a paint job, but I could also drive it for a year or two - it looks that good - all black. The bed has no dings at all in it.

Interior has buckets and the full guage package - in very good shape. Exterior - aluminum wheels and new Eagle St's. 305 V8 with an auto trans. The car has not been abused as far as I can see or been in any major accidents. The car needs some TLC, but that appears to be it.

He is asking 3500 which appears to be a good price. I could probably talk him down a little as he wants it to go to a good home.

It looks like a winner - any thoughts?

Make sure it's not 189,00 miles. :-(

Did you bring your camera? Before you buy it post some pictures here and we'll evaluate it for you. An 86 Choo-Choo with 89K miles, and in good mechanical condition is worth a lot more than $3,500.

I will be going to check it out later this week. I will bring the camera and post some pics. I checked it out myself yesterday and it looked good - as much as I could see without crawling under it or hearing it run. I will be meeting the owner and going over the car meticulously. It seems too good to be true, so we'll see.

I head two 5th gens years ago, so I am familiar with all the places they rot - including the frame. Anything else I should know about? The car appears to be bone stock except for the aftermarket wheels.

Crawl under it. Look specifically at the body mounts and the rear end area. The Elky doesn't hold up real well against rust in those areas. Lots of people have had problems with that. So I suggest you look at that first.

Hey if the guy only wants 3500 and it is in good shape give it to him its worth that.

Good Luck.

Thanks Guys,

We are in snowstorm hell this week, so I probably won't get to it now until the end of the week or the weekend.

I will keep you updated and post pics when I have them . . .

Go for it. My 81 seems to have attracted all the rust in NJ and yours should be fine.
