Up for sale is my 1971 Chevrolet El Camino. I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle and have driven it more than 80,000 trouble free miles over the last several years. Car is extremely dependable, drives very well and the steering is very tight. This was my daily driver until 2007 when I retired it from daily service. I also have the original owners’ manual and warranty info with protecto-plate.
This El Camino has the following options:
Original 270hp/350cu in engine with 4 bbl Rochester Q-Jet (RPO L48).
TH350 Automatic Trans
12 Bolt Rear axle with 2.73:1 non-posi gears
Air Conditioning (updated to R134)
AM/FM Radio (original – not aftermarket)
Factory dual front dash speakers
Deluxe seat belts
Black Vinyl top
Picture of trim tag is below for those of you interested.
This El Camino originally came from the factory with “Burnt Orange” paint, a white vinyl top and Sandalwood interior. The car was repainted by the original owner many years before I bought the car. The current color is similar to the original Burnt Orange and several years ago I replaced the white vinyl top with a black one.
I removed the tired, original motor years ago. I installed a 350 I found locally with the intention of eventually rebuilding the original motor. The motor in the car now is nothing special but I did install flat top pistons and a mild RV cam. I have about 50,000 miles on this motor. The original motor was running fine when I removed it with the exception of leaking and burning oil pretty bad. The motor has never been apart. In fact, I only removed one head just to check it out. It still has the original GM head gasket shims and the crank bearings say GM on them so everything is standard on the motor. Both complete engines are being sold with this car, the engine currently in the car and the original engine that came out of it.
Some items I’ve added are the dual exhaust system with flowmaster mufflers. These are the larger (more expensive) 50 series mufflers that are not as loud as some but still gives a very nice muscle car sound. I’ve also added the interior oil and temp gauge but did not cut any wires so you can hook up the warning lights if you want. I also replaced the original 14X6 rally wheels with 15X7 SS wheels (not 71 dated.) with BF Goodrich radials P235/60 R15 all the way around.
This car is not perfect but most everything works including the cigarette lighter, wipers, radio, heat, etc. A couple of things that don’t work is the horn (wire disconnected under horn shroud) the actual horn does in fact work. The AC works but the blower switch or relay works intermittently. The air shocks are not holding air. They may need to be replaced. All lights work including hazards, signals, reverse, high beams, license plate light and running lights.
I hope that covers it. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. I am open to all reasonable offers (no trades). I am also advertising locally so do not delay if you are interested in this car!
