: What engine mods would be best?

I just purchased an 85 with a stock 305. I want to drop a 350 in it and make the proper tranny and rear end mods to give me a decent street fighter. My problem is that this will also be my daily driver as well as my occassional trip vehicle. What would be my best bet to have the best of all worlds?

Search is your friend. This has been discussed alot. A 350 with a edelbrock package, a200r4 or 700r4 because of overdrive for highway, then a 3.42 or 3.73 rear.

i would go with an ls1 or the the ram jet 350. both have good horsepower and both are pretty reliable.

Kinda hard to say without knowing how you expect the car to perform and how fat your wallet is.

You will need a fat wallet or some gold barz lying around. Well its not really that bad. If you got the cash, go for broke, install a new 502/502 Ramjuet and controller with the 4L80e and a 12 bolt 4.10 locker or posi (you'd almost be able to pull a semi trailer behind you - Loaded!) and if you are so inclined then maybe you would consider a 6 speed standard T56 (Viper version) OD and 5.88:1 gears. :D what a dream set up! Talkabout getting good fuel economy at a cruising speed of 85 or 90 constantly :D Now that is, for me, Top not! Dream set up!

But we all have our tastes and limitations. Good luck what ever you do.
