1980 El Camino 229 Six Cylinder

I had a problem with my headlights turning off while driving. I replaced the headlight switch and had no headlights at all. My courtesy lights inside the cabin were now always on. I pulled the fuse out for the courtesy lights so the battery wouldn't drain. Without the fuse in, I now had headlights. I put the fuse back in and still had headlights and still had courtesy lights on all the time.

I suspect the cheap switch I got has a bad dimmer. I believe I need to get another new one of better quality. Any thoughts?

I had a bad dimmer switch also, headlights always worked fine but no dome or instrument lights
Kept blowing that 5w fuse.
I put a new headlight switch in that i bought at auto zone cheap for around 10 bucks.
Now a month later im back in the same boat with no instrument lights and its blowing that 5w again, headlights still fine.

Im going to purchase a better switch.http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j114/damienbaits/El%20Camino/brokenswitch.jpg

I took my cheapie switch back and paid some added bucks for the AC Delco. Everything works fine now. You get what you pay for, I guess.
