Has anyone successfully painted the woodgrain dash and console inserts? If so what did you use? Or are there any replacements available in black?

I didn't paint mine but was tired of the burl walnut look on my 82 Elky dash so I just bought some self adhesive wood grain shelf paper at the store and redone it all in a light colored pine. I like it!

I was talking with a guy on ebay who is selling a bezel. He took some kind of solvent and removed the woodgrain. She says it looks great in the underlaying black. I guess all the texturing is just plastered over when they woodgrain it...
