: KICKOFF FOR THE 50th! STARTS NOW!!
LeoC2 01-02-2009, 11:17 PM OK folks we're now shifting to high gear in our kickoff to the 50th Anniversary of the El Camino. The official celebration will begin at Carlisle, PA June 26-June 28, 2009.
In the coming weeks we'll be posting lots of info for you all. But to get started... anyone planning to attend should consider registering NOW. The registration is open and you can save by registering early.
See the official announcement here. (http://carlisleevents.com/ce/events/gm-nationals)
You should pre-register here. (http://store.carlisleevents.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CE&Product_Code=2009-029&Category_Code=CAN4)
Now this is VERY IMPORTANT!! VERY VERY IMPORTANT!! Did I mention this is important? Well it's very important. When you register be absolutely sure to mention NECOA as the car club, just fill in "NECOA" and we will get credit. We need this credit to help us get our free 25x25 tent. We need 25 Elkys pre-registered in order to get the tent for free. Did I mention how important this is?
Carlisle people will be keeping me advised as to how pre-registrations are coming and I promised them we'd have a big showing so DON'T EMBARASS ME!! Pre-register now and save!
Also, don't forget we have rooms reserved at the Comfort Suites in Carlisle so call to reserve as soon as you can. See a separate thread on this.
acauth1 01-03-2009, 01:38 AM Leo, is that 25 with or without cars?
rlarlopez 01-03-2009, 08:32 AM People, I agree with Leo. It is so important to get the elkos out in force. This is our moment in history, our time to shine. Remember, we are the last vehicle to celebrate the golden year of the '50s so everyone come out to your respective show and register. We have 57 registered already for the Autoclub Famoso Raceway show in Oct 31-Nov 1, 2009 show, but we need a lot more. Discovery Channel, A&E channel, Primedia Publications, are some of the entities interested in our project and a lot of energy is being spent on making this the 50th Anniversary to remember. We are a brotherhood, let's show the world our true numbers. RRL

LeoC2 01-03-2009, 08:42 AM Leo, is that 25 with or without cars?
That's 25 registered vehicles. Now in theory you can register but not bring the vehicle you registered, as long as you show up at the main gate to get your papers.
If we get less than 25 we have to pay something like $165 for the tent.
el Bandido 01-03-2009, 09:01 AM I registered on 9/15/08 and as always posted my NECOA membership on the form.
I know a lot of guys are planning to go - but as always PRE registration is a commitment that most don't want to make --- APPEAL :poke:! ! ! just for this one time guys - its not like we're asking for a marriage proposal and if you pay the $30 now think of how nice it will be to not have to spend it in June:nanawrench:
I really hate these smileys but we need to get your ATTENTION
Quintonsdusty 01-06-2009, 08:37 AM Ok, I'm committed. By the way, the registration is $40.
Jim
el Bandido 01-07-2009, 04:18 AM Hey Jim - its been a while... your truck looks great on the calendar - congrats for making the cut and being able to show her off.
I only paid $30 back in September and I got my confirmation so I will assume I am "good to go"
I read somewhere that you are in charge of distributing the 50th Anniversary banners... could you let us all know the details: size? - cost? - how to pay? - delivery lead time? We will certainly want them in time for our early spring local shows.
We all really appreciate all the work you did to create them ---- now lets get them out there !
thanx
LeoC2 01-07-2009, 09:34 AM Ok, I'm committed. By the way, the registration is $40.
Jim
You save $10 with pre-registration. Pre-Registration is $30, day of show is $40.
Tuggy24g 01-07-2009, 09:43 AM I am getting mine done in a few day when I get payed!
rlarlopez 01-24-2009, 04:41 PM Entertaining the car enthusist at car shows have alwas been a problem for show promotors because they don't focus on the fact that many come from afar to gather and they need to be taken care of.
That is why we at are going to great expense to make sure that the 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway on Oct 31-Nov 1, 2009 is going to be memorable. 5 bands will play throughout the day leading up to the main concert featuring a major rock band with close ties to the hot rod world. Picture 2 rows of vehicles on the drag strip in front of the grand stands. Then throw in all-day, Open-Header cruising along the frontage road, and leave room for 65 acres of secured parking and overnight camping. I think you will enjoy the weekend and consider this event the one to be at. RRL

Random 02-14-2009, 07:11 AM What about security? If we drive there and stay for a couple days,,,,how safe will the cars be over night?
(I've never been there)

Well like anything else you need to exercise common sense. First of all rarely do people leave their vehicles there overnight for the three days, usually people drive their vehicles to and from the fairgrounds each day. They do have security in the sense that you need a vehicle pass to get in at night but they can't possibly know if it's the owner of a vehicle driving it out. Security also patrols at night. I've never heard of an incident but it's always possible.
If you must leave it overnight then lock it, cover it, and you should be fine.
sandblaster 02-14-2009, 09:13 AM Hello Leo, when you register for Carlisle, Pa. Is the fee for the three day event ? Please explain more on the procedure of the Do's and Don't when you arrive their . Thanks !
kenrogers1 02-14-2009, 09:26 AM Are there two different events being discussed in this thread? Was the security queation for California or Penn? I'm interested in Penn security.

The registration fee is for all three days. When you arrive you check in at Gate 3 and they give you your paperwork. You slap an entry pass on your windshield and that's it. You park with the rest of the vehicles in your class. Classes are yet to be fully determined for the El Caminos.

We are discussing the official NECOA celebration at Carlisle. This is the kickoff event. All others will follow through the summer into the fall. For southern CA you can check www.elcaminosclub.com.
sandblaster 02-15-2009, 08:01 PM Thanks for the info Leo, will be working on getting registered soon !
Quintonsdusty 02-16-2009, 09:34 AM Ok, I'm committed. By the way, the registration is $40.
Jim
Well, they charged me $40; however, I called them this morning and they gave me a $10 credit. When I pre-registered, their site said $40. So, be sure that you are only charge $30 for pre-registration.
Jim
LeoC2 02-16-2009, 04:07 PM The pre-registration fee is $30. I don't see how anyone is being charged $40. If you go TO THIS PAGE (http://store.carlisleevents.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CE&Product_Code=2009-029&Category_Code=CAN4) it clearly says $30 and you should be charged $30. if anyone is charged $40 please let me know right away and I'll call the events manager at Carlisle and have him get it fixed.
LeoC2 02-17-2009, 08:29 AM Yeah, I was charged $40 too. My customer ID is 170892. Thanks Leo.
Ernie, you should call and get a refund. Please email or PM me with more details, was this the online form or by phone? If it was online did you use the El Camino pre-registration form they have listed? When was this? I'll need this info so if there's a problem I can get it fixed.

Richard,
I'm working with Richard Schultze in the Northwest on a banner for the Canby, OR show. We're putting in the place and date just for them. We could do the same for you if you haven't made other arrangements.
Jim
Quintonsdusty 02-22-2009, 08:15 AM The registration fee is for all three days. When you arrive you check in at Gate 3 and they give you your paperwork. You slap an entry pass on your windshield and that's it. You park with the rest of the vehicles in your class. Classes are yet to be fully determined for the El Caminos.
Don't forget that when you pre-register, the driver and a passenger get in for the entire event for the $30 fee. If you walk-in it's $15 each for the 3 day event.
Sir Tonk 03-27-2009, 01:29 PM How many registrations do you have at the moment? Once I get the trans sealed up on my '81 I'm going to see if I can afford the trip. Should know by the middle of April.
And about the classes, is there a FAQ on what is considered a mod? Are we talking anything beyond the OEM parts, or more along the lines of changing out the engine/exhaust/suspension? For example, mine has been repainted and the interior was repainted as well, but all the parts are techincally original just a different color. So the only real 'mods' are a different cat-back exhaust system and an air cleaner out of a Z28. And the previous owner pulled the A.I.R. system, EFE, and TVS, but I'm trying to get them replaced. (well, not the A.I.R. system)
Thanks, hope I can get all the way to PA from Houston. Maybe I can get the AC working by then.
kenrogers1 03-31-2009, 09:35 AM Sir Tonk, I eMailed them and asked about the mods to my El Camino. They replied back fast with their response......Ken
LeoC2 03-31-2009, 09:38 AM Sir Tonk, I eMailed them and asked about the mods to my El Camino. They replied back fast with their response......Ken
Are you going to share their answer?
Sir Tonk 03-31-2009, 05:51 PM :laughing4:
Thanks, I was thinking the same thing.
Anyway, the transmission shop called back and said the transmission needed a full rebuild and they'll be done tomorrow. Also, the switch for the lock-up torque converter (bear with me, I've never had a car with an automatic and actually ever needed to work on it) isn't connected and is why my mileage sucks apparently.
All this will be fixed soon, I'm handling the switch, so I will more than likely be able to go. Just waiting to figure out which class I'll register in, I'll email someone at Carlisle and post the response so everyone else won't have to bother.
Quintonsdusty 03-31-2009, 09:47 PM Hey Tonk,
Glad to hear your going to make the trip.
Jim
LeoC2 03-31-2009, 09:52 PM ...Just waiting to figure out which class I'll register in, I'll email someone at Carlisle and post the response so everyone else won't have to bother.
That;'s not the way it works. There isn't anything for you to figure out, when you check in at the gate you give the year and wether modified or not and they tell you what class your in.
kenrogers1 04-01-2009, 09:24 AM When I eMailed them, I simply detailed the mods to my El Camino - SEE BELOW. That's it. They replied that my car would fit in the stock class.
Sorry about not sharing the results of the eMail, or for not making it clear that it should be an individual request for classification details.......Ken :buttkick:

Rick Markko [RickM@carlisleevents.com]
Sirs:
Could you please explain “modified” for me. I had planned to enter my 1968 El Camino SS into the 50th Anniversary show in June. However, I noticed on the entry that there are spaces for 3 or less modifications, and for 4+ modifications. As an example, My El Camino has 15 inch wheels instead of the 14 inch wheels it was manufactured with; it has a modified cam and headers on the motor; it has a 2 ˝ inch exhaust system with crossover and Magnaflow mufflers. Other than those changes, which do little to alter the appearance of the car (other than to fill the wheel wells up and allow the car to sit somewhat higher), the car is a numbers matching, off-frame restoration. All paint and other items are pure stock.
My question is – do I have a “Modified” or “Stock” El Camino by your definition?
I do not believe the car should be placed in a “modified” catagory. However, I will await your determination before making a decision to complete my entry. Although my car is a beautiful restoration, with over $30,000.00 invested, I cannot compete with the altered, full custom, modified cars that will be dripping chrome and wearing 20+ inch wheels, 5000+ watt sound systems, etc.
Thank you very much,
Ken,
Thanks for taking the time to write with your questions.
I’m the event manager for the All-GM Nationals.
Based on your description of the “changes” to your Elky, you would be in a stock class.
Please contact me if you have any other questions.
I look forward to seeing your Elky in June.
Thanks!

Tuggy24g 04-01-2009, 09:29 AM Well when you register your EL Camino it is for the whole three days. It is also your pass to get into the fairgrounds.
Sir Tonk 04-02-2009, 09:19 AM That;'s not the way it works. There isn't anything for you to figure out, when you check in at the gate you give the year and wether modified or not and they tell you what class your in.
It asks for which class you're registering in when signing up, that's what I've been curious about.
Anyway, I got a response quickly and they said that all my mods are considered basic upgrades and would keep it in the unmodified class. The only real 'performance mods' I've got are a full cat-back exhaust, with the cat removed, and a dual-snorkel Camaro air cleaner, if anyone is curious.
I'm working on finding someone to tag along so I can afford the gas/lodging, will update once everything is worked out.
LeoC2 04-02-2009, 01:42 PM It asks for which class you're registering in when signing up, that's what I've been curious about.
Well I can tell you this... at the slow rate of pre-registrations there won't be separate stock/modified classes. At present we have classes as Gen1-2, Gen 3-4, Gen 5. I'm trying to get separate classes for each Gen and get Stock/Modified.
if we want these classes broken down better we MUST have more pre-registrations. So if anyone that is coming hasn't registered yet well GET OFF YOUR KEISTER and register! Anyone registering on the days of the show will still get in of course but their registration won't count in determining classes, it'll be too late.
Sir Tonk 04-05-2009, 08:00 PM I'll register later this week, got to wait for all my bills to clear first.
79Conquesta 04-12-2009, 06:10 PM Count one more Gen V as being pre registered. Mines a real beater and not to much to look at but it's for a good cause WTH. Maybe we'll get a shower and with all the mud you won't see the rust. JUST KIDDING GUYS!!!. I want to see some good basic cars to get an idea for mine.
Sir Tonk 04-18-2009, 01:53 PM Registered.
I want to see some good basic cars to get an idea for mine.
This is a terrific reason to go. Inspiration.
Personally, I want to see what everyone has done to their own rides, so I'm pretty much in the same boat.
