Hi,
I was looking online for transmission websites and I came across http://www.eatmyshift.com/
The company is called Monster Transmission & Performance. I have heard some bad things about Bow Tie Overdrives, and was wondering if Monster was a good place to buy from. If not, what other place is good.
Thanks,
David

Just did all the research also and went through every guy I know and did not know on who to get a quality 700R4. One of the do not list was Monster or eatmyshift-quote from more than two Chevelle guys the don't fix there problems, "its always the install or the driver that caused any problem".
I just finaly went back to someone I used twice before even through they are several hundred dollars more, but if I had used them last time I would have saved twice what I saved now. TCI is who I went to for just for that reason. Go and read and call them check your various speed shops or whom ever you trust and pay the extra it may just realy be a savings??

I have read bad reviews about monster on "thirdgen.org". I have a Bowtie OD level 2 700R4. I have had no problems so far behind a ZZ4 crate engine. About 20,000 miles. I did have one of their torque convertors baloon on me behind the same engine. Customer service has been better then average I would say.

the best local transmission guys are ALWAYS drag racers!check with a local speed shop if you dont know anyone who races.a speed shop probably has someone local doing their tranys! GL!

Daytona and others. That's what I thought for years and did just that with "CRT Perforance Transmissions" This guy is one nice person and does a big buiness at Bradenton Motor Speedway and been around and did other units for me. Than I did the change to a 700R4 and it was noisey and shifted wrong and they pulled it 3 times and promissed to fix if I waited until they moved. When CRT moved 40 miles I went in for the 4th time and now the trans shifted Ok but not good noisey in all gears cold warm and now it slipped and the lockout switch was gone. They dropped the pan, fluid was perfect switch was burnt fix it closed it up ran it for 2 days and SAID yes it noisey yes it slips a little and they did not know what it was (BS) and said if it blows call use will look at it. So I am replacing it with a TCI hopefully all the good things I have heard about them are true. This big EXPLAINATION IS SO I HOPE OTHERS READ IT AND STAY AWAY FROM CRT PERFORMANCE Florida.
This CRT is doing several shows in our area and I know the promoters I will be parking right next to there both with an offer of rides if I have not changed the trans or a little customer service sign and warning from 4 differnet cars now that have problems. Sometimes it fun to get even!
Use the big companies it will be cheaper in the long run!

Better to revive than remake a thread and get told to search.
Is Monster Transmission still to be avoided or have they gotten their **** together? Also, I was under the impression that the 700R4 was basically the same thing as the 4L60E. I'm sure they're not the same but I'm not real sure the differences between the 2. In your opinion, would it be better to buy a complete transmission or buy a used one from craigslist and rebuild it?

Well it all depends on how much and what your looking to do with your El Camino. If you want the best and overdrive then no dought go with Art Carr. He make the best 200r4 in the business. Only thing is he is really expensive.

TCI is a good outfit, and Summit handles those transmissions. And you can get on TCIs site & check them out, and ask questions etc. The other big name is Gear Star, who has transmissions to handle most any engine power and torque out there.
