: 86 'Camino flasher
piperdriver 01-14-2009, 04:09 AM Hey guys, i just bought an 86 camino for my son and I to work on. This truck has been sitting for over 10 years. Lot's of gremlins to work out. One of the gremlins has made it's way to the turn signal flasher. After looking at the wireing diagrams here I have concluded that I may have an '87 fuse block. The only flasher unit on the fuse block is the hazard flasher. We have crawled all over this thing trying to find the directional flasher. Can anyone point us in a direction to look? This would be VERY appreciated. Thanks----
464elky 01-14-2009, 05:11 AM It is in a block located right behind the head light switch along with the door/key buzzer and etc. If you were the fuse box looking backwards into the rear of the dash you would be looking at it. I think I'm right for an 86.
piperdriver 01-14-2009, 05:39 AM You are exactly right. Thanks-----I just got back in from wedging my 6'2" 320# frame between the steering wheel and the floor. I fineally saw it. Replaced it and all is well. Once again, thanks a lot for the quick response.

Replaced it and all is well. Once again, thanks a lot for the quick response.I need to replace my flasher, too! You say to reach it you have to lay on the floor & look up by the headlite knob? I'm 6'3" and about the same size! :dontknow: :???: Thanks....
JJLT1 08-14-2009, 02:45 AM yes,,, if you dont have 2 flashers on the fuse block up on the firewall,in front of the e-brake...
you can remove the small lower dash panel below the steering wheel also helps a little..
good luck...:texas:

good luck...:texas: I went to take a look last nite,& couldnt see anything until I remove a couple panels I guess. Damn,I just thought I could jump in there, swap 'em out and be done!:???: Not until I dissassemble the panels,& it aint easy getting my big ass in there to where I can see the fasteners. Actually, the flasher has always worked, but it flashes much faster then I think it should ,...until recently when one turn signal bulb failed, which I didnt realize would screw things up.So,I'm upgrading to Sylvania Long Life bulbs everywhere,& decided to get the correct flasher too.Its turning into a bigger project than planned! I found that my big 'mitts' dont fit in the holes, where the front sidemarkers are.Got a bloody hand from trying. As far as headlites,I changed my low beams on my 4-lite system,to Silverstars....what a huge difference!
JJLT1 08-15-2009, 05:28 AM should be 4 phillips screws in the panel below the wheel..
yep a bad bulb/socket/ground will do weard things sometimes...
if you ever plan to pull a trailer? put a heavy duty flasher in there...:texas:

if you ever plan to pull a trailer? put a heavy duty flasher in there...:texas:Hey,now that you reminded me,when I got the 84 it had a puny trailer hitch already on it.So,maybe the other owner changed flashers. If a heavy duty version wouldnt make it flash 3 times faster, then he put the wrong one in there.:dontknow:
Thanks for the info on fasteners under there.I'm going to have to wait until Sunday to get under there,I guess
JJLT1 08-17-2009, 05:00 PM no a hd flasher wont make it fast flash,,,unless its broke/worn out
they probly just wore out the original pulling the trailer...:texas:

they probly just wore out the original pulling the trailer...:texas:Well,I finally made it under the dash area yesterday! I loosened the panel just below the steering wheel, which had 4 screws holding it.Didnt pull it all the way out, because it had a hose attached I assume is connected to the air conditioning.I could see the flasher from there, but it was too far back to the right to reach...for me anyhow. So,I had to remove 2 more small bolts that the previous panel was screwed to.That allowed me to take the whole insulating cover panel completely out of the way.I got my left hand in there, yanked out the old 2-prong flasher out-stuck the new FL32 electronic flasher in. Works good,& makes a slight clicking sound at a slower speed...unlike the other one.It was a Tridon 552/536. Thanks for the help, guys!
