Just a general question to settle an argument between my father and me. We have a 1970 Chevy El Camino with the SS 396 package. My dad says that the spare tire was always a standard steel rim. I say that they always had matching spares which were available at additional cost. Can someone settle this argument between me and my dad?

Every "original" car I have ever seen had a plain steel wheel for a spare.

I have been wondering about this myself. Would that apply to rally wheels?

I think it was any wheel package.

Found my build sheet a couple weeks ago and according to the build sheet, my car came with the matching spare rim and tire. Woo hoo. :D

You know back then you could order just about anything so that makes since.

According to the "Chevelle SS restoration guide"; it shows an illustration of the SS sport rim as the spare for the 69 el camino, and it does say for the 70 that it was the same setup but no SS center cover was included.
The nut assembly holds the rim in place through the top lug hole.
I then looked in the 1970 factory assembly instruction manual, and it shows the jack base being used to hold the rim (not sure if it is a SS sport rim) in place throught the center of the rim, which then would be in the way of the SS cover assembly.
I can't find instructions for the YA orr JJ SS sport rim in the 1970 factory assembly instruction manual.
Some one please provide some documented proof, because I plan to put the SS rim as the spare, and I would like it to be factory correct.
Ok, so I guess I don't know, but I hope this research is of some help.
