I have a complete 454 sitting around gathering dust. I like to put in my 79 ElCamino.
It has a 305 in it now. Has anyone here done such a swap? Any photos of the swap. Its a stock 454 with cast iron intake, with rochester carb, and 14" chrome air cleaner, along with stock cast iron exhaust mainfolds. I also have a set of hooker hearers from a BBC 70 Chevelle. Will the BBC bolt up to the stock location motor mounts? Car has new front coil springs. If I dont get any responces I will keep every up to date on install of 454 will be backed by a turbo 400 trans and a 12 bolt rear I also have for it.
Thanks DMG.

I *think* you keep the motor mounts in the same location... they cant go forward anymore. it will drop in fairly easily. If you have AC, you may need short valve covers, otherwise, I think you'll be fine.

even if your springs are new, if they are only stock replacements, they may not be up to the task of holding up a big block. Aluminum parts are your friend here.... pump, radiator, intake, etc.

the chevelle headers may be a bit of a challenge to install, but then again, you may get lucky.

It's not an uncommon swap. Not sure of the "A" body headers fitting or not. My guess would be no. Do a search. There are several BBC 5th gen Elkys here. Good luck with the swap. By the way, where did the 12 bolt come from?
