: 79-99 GM Invoice Copies
camino81 01-30-2004, 07:03 PM Has anyone seen or read about this yet??? Saw it over on the montess site. Here's a link to the forum post 79-99 GM Invoice (http://www.montecarloss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=004679;p=1)
From montecarloss.com this is just a copy of the first post so you get the idea of what i'm talking about. The lady you send the request to at GM posted on this forum to verify that it is real. Oh yeah you'll have to change it from monte to el camino.
"Let me ask you this... How would you like to get a copy of the original dealer/factory invoice for your car?? Wouldn't that be cool!!!! How much would you pay for that information??? What if I told you that you could get it for FREE!!
Here's the scoop. this wonderful lady named Jennifer, works at the GM Media Archive, and loves to support the collecting of GM cars. If you email your request to her, she'll mail you a copy of your cars original dealer invoice.
She requests you send your request in the following format:
"Dearest Jenn,
Please send me the invoice for my 198X Monte. My VIN is: (Insert COMPLETE, CORRECT VIN).
My mailing address is:
Monte Enthusiast's Name here
Street Address
City, State ZIP
Thank you, Jenn! You are a wonderful human being and are an asset to General Motors and the world in general!"
Sent it to her, and wait.. it'll take about 5 weeks to get your info, and please don't bug her asking if she got your info... she's very busy, and she's only permitted to submit so many requests a week.
Oh yea, send requests to jennifer.knightstep@gm.com
Hope you all enjoy!!!"
Chris
87ElCamino 01-31-2004, 07:22 AM I just finished reading the threads on montecarloss.com and thirdgen.org. This girl Jenn is quite a gal. She has probably sent out hundreds of original invoices for FREE. Once this catches on here, her inbox will be full for a long time to come. I've sent in my request and I can't wait to get a response.
I've also given her a link to ECC and an invitation to join our motley group. She joined thirdgen.org and answered all their questions.
Alchemist 01-31-2004, 07:24 AM http://www.corvetteforum.cc/zeroimg/smilies/coolgleamA.gif Very Cool!!! http://www.corvetteforum.cc/zeroimg/smilies/coolgleamA.gif
Thanks Chris!!! http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/alchemist/thumb.gif
Tommy 01-31-2004, 09:44 AM I think I will add one more! 8) Thanks, Chris
ElkyPete 01-31-2004, 03:21 PM This sounds great. I am a tad skeptical still.
Let me get this correct she'll get you a Monty Invoice that can be changed to an Elky Invoice?
Oh yeah you'll have to change it from monte to el camino.
Or did I misunderstand that part? I am skeptal because generally these types of things are just collection points for mailing lists but it does have the GM address.
Let me know if you get yours. I'd hate to overload her with mail but I'd sure like to have on on each of my Elkys. That would be pretty cool.
This is something like the GM Restoration Packets.
87ElCamino 01-31-2004, 06:11 PM Pete, if you read the threads on montecarloss.com and thirdgen.org you'll see that this is legit. Send her your El Camino info including the VIN and you'll get a copy of the original invoice. This is not a resto pack.
Scrubby 02-01-2004, 04:53 AM It's a shame that the info is not available for anything earlier than 1977. I'd like to find the info on my 1966. :-(
87last1 02-01-2004, 06:42 AM Great Info Chris,Thanks
I just added mine !!
n1earnhrt 03-08-2004, 10:25 AM I just sent mine
Kansascamino 03-16-2004, 05:06 AM Is this for real? Has anyone gotten an invoice from doing this? It sure sound good but I can't buy that this is true. If anyone has gotten one please let us know.
87ElCamino 03-16-2004, 06:56 PM It's been about six weeks since I sent my request in. I haven't received anything yet. The talk on montecarloss.com is that she had a baby and is on maternity leave till the end of March.
joeblow 03-16-2004, 07:32 PM same status for me. Sent Feb 1, haven't heard anything yet. I'm not going to bug her (or her substitute) like others on the Monte site have done.
Mrapii 04-17-2004, 01:16 PM I just got an Email from Jennifer at GM Archieves about my request for an original invoice for my 1979 El Camino. She says since my El Camino was exported she can't retrieve the invoice. I live in Hawaii. We became a state in November of 1959. GM considered cars shipped to Hawaii to be "exported". They continued this procedure well into the 1980s, more than 25 years after we became an official part of the US. Does anyone wonder why GM takes so long to respond to changes?
joeblow 04-19-2004, 06:51 PM I got my copy today. I guess this took about 11 weeks. Since I already had the original RPO sheet (and owner's manual), this sheet didn't tell me too much extra except for the prices on the options.
And Mrapii, Hawaii is probably considered an export because they had to put the vehicle on a boat for shipping. Mine was delivered by rail to Indiana (according to the sheet).
2-Elkys 04-19-2004, 07:13 PM Well add me to the list of those who got one. I got the one for my 85-SS today! very pleased!
Tommy 04-19-2004, 07:26 PM Yo Robin, There has to be some negative to living in Paradise! I just got mine. It is cool to see the prices of stuff cause I already had a build sheet.
I revcd. mine today and was shocked to have revcd it at all. I think this is a great pc of documentation as to the original options on your car. Thanks.
Mrapii 04-19-2004, 08:21 PM I'm glad everyone is receiving their invoices especially since there was some skepticism about someone in GM actually going out of their way to help us hotrodders. That Jennifer is one sweet lady and I wish I could thank her in person.
joeblow 04-19-2004, 09:08 PM Yes, Jennifer is wonderful. She certainly is spreading a lot of corporate goodwill for GM.
Got mine yesterday! The actual mfg invoice showing delivery to Choo Choo Customs. Another great piece of documentation!
gmc caballero 04-20-2004, 09:05 AM Got mine the other day too. For you folks with GMC's, contact her. Most places I have contacted for invoices, window stickers, etc. can only get the Chevrolet stuff. She is the first to help with GMC. Don't pass this opportunity up for free documentation. I am very happy with mine. :D
87ElCamino 04-20-2004, 06:27 PM The one for my 79 SS came in yesterday. It confirmed it was an SS with a 4 speed and buckets. It cost $5,769.53
What a great service this is! Thanks Jennifer!!
Tommy 04-21-2004, 09:12 AM My true 78 SS cost 6199.89. I would maybe take that for it now!
Scully 05-28-2004, 10:03 PM I got mine today - took about 5 weeks - I had actually forgotten about it till it arrived. It's all there: options on my Elky, as well as their cost ($142 for a Delco AM/FM Radio, please!?!), key numbers, where it was shipped to and the total price $8,219.45 on Noember 29, 1980...
83choochoo 06-02-2004, 03:47 PM I just got my invoice today, she even sent mine down here to Canada, i never thought she would send mine that far. shes a great lady for helping all of us elky owners. 8)
72ss454Florida 06-02-2004, 04:11 PM dang you guys are killing me....I wish I could get some of that stuff for my 72!!!
87ElCamino 06-07-2004, 06:46 AM It was good while it lasted, but all good things must come to an end.
Apparently there won't be any more El Camino invoices sent out. Jennifer no longer works for GM's Media Archive Research. She has been replaced. I hope it wasn't because of what she was doing for us. I sent her an e-mail last week and got the following automated response:
I will be out of the office starting 05/05/2004 and will not return until 12/31/2004.
This email address will no longer be monitored after May 31, 2004. Peggy
Vezina has replaced Jennifer in Media Archive Research, and her email address is peggy.vezina@gm.com . Thank you for contacting GM Media Archive.
Scully 06-07-2004, 07:32 AM I hope that Jennifer was not replaced/released because of her involvement in sending out these invoices. I sent hear an e-mail a couple of weeks ago thanking her for mine, but did not hear back - IMO this is the type of service that generates a tremendous amount of goodwill for GM and should be encouraged NOT penalized, but there's probably some young bean counter some where in Michigan (who has never even been in an elky!) that got pissy about this and had her transferred somewhere.
I think all of us who received these (as well as all the folks on the Monte site) should take the time to let GM know how much we appreciate what she did and make them aware of the fact that the service she provided (free of charge!) has generated more goodwill for The General than anything else I've seen to date. This woman deserves to be recognized for what she did, its up to US to do it...
Tommy 06-07-2004, 08:11 AM I would be glad to sent out another email if I knew where to sent it. It was a great thing.
Black Knight 07-26-2004, 02:32 PM I got my invoice for my Black Knight......Thank god my car is an original Z16 in 1978-I traded a nice 1967 dart GT for the Black Knight....
I was worried when I received my Restoration packets from GM first, because the only interior color options for the Z16 were tan or black, with "NO" "ZP2 overrides"(whatever the hell that is) My BK has Carmine/red interior......but after getting my invoice, and seeing with my own eyes the Z16 option and carmine interior w/ larger gas tank and heavy duty radiator, I called the original dealer, 1/4 mile from my last shop, and got in touch with a sales manager who's son is the current sales manager, who told me that a fellow wanted that car, that way, so they attempted to order it anayway, and were initially denied. However, due to the small amount of special orders from all dealers, they went ahead and produced it in the last line of production before switching to the next model year line....and the guy that ordered it bought it..........and in a round about way, I got it after the guys nephew.
therefore, I am legit!!!! a 1978 SS Black Knight!!!!!and I can prove it!!!!!!!!
and I problably have the only one with red interior!!!!!!yeah!!!!!!! 8-)
WINGMAN 07-26-2004, 04:57 PM I never imagined that you could still get that info on anything except medium duty trucks.I'm sending a request for mine today.
autiger 12-08-2005, 01:15 PM Does anyone know if this service is still available? Please PM me with the info. Thanks!
