: What are your RPMs?

My 85 runs fine, except for some vaccuum lines I need to deal with but the thing that concerns me is my RPMs are maxed out when I drive. It doesn't sound like it's putting alot of strain on the engine or transmission but I was just curious to know how common this is with others.

Would have to know your rear axle ratio and transmission. I have an 85 with 2.41 axle ratio and TH350 trans, no tach but RPMs seem low even at 75 MPH. The TH350 replaced a TH200C Metric which had torque converter lockup so the RMS are a little higher than original production. My 87 has a 3.08 axle ratio and a TH200-4R trans with overdrive so the RPMs are only around 2100-2200 at 75 MPH. You might have a high number axle ratio, good for acceleration but results in high RPMs on the highway.

suggest you obtain info on what rear end and trans you have. It sounds like you are not shifting into high or the lock up is not occuring.

Those are some pretty impresive numbers I bet you could hit 160 easy in that elky. How are your take offs?? can you still burn rubber??

The TH200-R4 overdrive trans does not affect the acceleration. In fact with the 3.08 rear axle ratio I can burn rubber easier with the 87 than the 85 that has the 2.41 axle ratio. Even though the overdrive is capable of the RPMs for 160 MPH it is not possible on the 87 because of HP limitations. Down hill would be a different story.

160 MPH is easy, with the 383, 500+ ponys, the 700R4 and my 2.41 rear end, burn the tires off going through a 1/4 mile and just get in into 2nd gear going through the lights

Just what is B4hand's question though? What does he mean by "his rpm's are maxed out"? Does this mean that it will not accelerate any further or that it is wound up to the point where it can't?
