Hello all, I'm new to this site and must say so far its been a wealth of information. i recently purchased an 86 and plan to restore. I just picked up a fiberglass cowl induction hood. my question is, the hardware from the stock hood fits fine however looks like i will need to do something with the spring. i need ideas as to what i need to do to the spring or is there any after market part i can use.............thanks

Welcome, when I installed the first fiberglass hood I purchased the low tension springs, the stock are to stiff, the hood I have now is very lightweigh and does not have any springs. I don't remember where I bought them, sorry.

Call the hood maker they will tell you that most fiberglass hoods require a spring that is for the fiberglass hood. I know of several composit and fiberglass hoods that have cracks because of the wrong tension and size springs were used. One that I saw at a show with stock hinges and springs that just pulled the laminate and plate off the hood in one piece, that was probably a laminating error by the MFG but the force was pretty great to do it as the only thing I saw was the color of a hot bach of resin.

A mechanic I know has an El Camino hood in the corner of his shop busted all the way across.
