My neighbor fat Ron asked me what the heck I was doing to my elky the other day I told him I was puting Sea foam in the carb (which I can vouch for) to clean the carbon out the motor he chuckled and told me that they sold me water in that can. He swears that water will do the same thing. Is this true? Does any one have experience with this?

:dontknow:umm no water wouldnt be good i think it would leave pits in your block. I was alwase told getting water into your engine is a bad thing. I mean I dont know everything about an engine so maybe im wrong but I would say not to put water threw your carb.

Just takes about 1/8th cup of water and it will clear out carbon pretty good. Trickle it in slowly as you rev the engine a bit by hand to keep it from dying. It won't hurt a thing. But Seafoam is good too, and not that expensive. No reason not to use Seafoam. Be sure to change your oil too afterwards as Seafoam tends to wash down cylinder walls into the engine oil a bit.

Thanks Maddening (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=2054) that answers my question. Like you said I'll stick to sea faom, I wish I would of known that about the oil earlier because I put the sea foam in after I changed the oil:neutral:. I put a qt of Lucas this time since the weather WAS worming up here San Gabriel Vally intill this past week with the rain an all.

Two things. Water (probably the SF too) really only works when the engine is hot, and let it run a bit afterwards... and the SeaFoam will work a bit better IMHO, because IIRC SF recommends letting the trickle kill the engine and then let it sit and "soak" for a bit to help dissolve deposits...

Ever pulled apart an engine with a bad head gasket/cracked head? Notice how clean the cylinder that got coolant in it was?

Yeah a bit of water trickled in will boil some of the carbon off the tops of the pistons and valve faces. But water doesn't compress so a garden hose down the carb is a bad idea....:nanawrench:

....unless you like bent rods....:yell:
