I have an 82 Grand Prix that I want to change from the dying stock 4.1 V6 to a SBC. Could anyone give some advice? It should be very similar to an El seeing as they're both G-bodies. My bigest questions are motor mounts and the tranny. How can I check if it has a Turbo350 or something else? Thanks.

Damn, I'd love to find a an '82 GP with a Buick 4.1. There would be a turbo on that so quick. :)
Get a complete motor out of a Monte Carlo or whatever because you'll need all the little things like accesory brackets and stuff. Figure out if you need an ECM to pass emissions. In that case you'll need all the V8's wiring too.
Too bad you aren't closer, I'd give you my 305 boat anchor for that 4.1 V6. :) An '82 4.1 might have a 350 behind it.
The original crank in the 4.1 is worth some $$$. It's the same as the Turbo 3.8 V6.

Is the Pontiac 4.1 the same as the Buick 4.1? I know a few GN guys and none of them have asked me about it.
I have a 305 boat anchor I'm selling to somebody to rebuild and put in their Jeep.
Don't need to worry about the Smog Nazi. I love AZ. I want the electric carb banished from the ride.
I'm thinking about ditching the AC and PS, so all I'll need is the Alt brackets, and I can get a chrome set at any auto parts place for cheep.
I have a buddy who has a 265 V8 that has all fresh seals and only 80k miles on it he's willing to sell me for $275. That a good deal? Has the distributor, just need to find a 2bbl carb for it, since it has the 2bbl manifold. I'm also thinking the hooker super comp headers that came off my El should fit the GP, so I could toss those on as well.
So I'm still wondering how I can tell if it's a Turbo350 and if I need to change the motor mounts??

Yes change the motor mounts, but the correct holes are there. Look at the trans oil pan, is it square with a corner cut out? Then it's a th350 which is a good trans. Get a carb. & dist. from a non computer & you are set.

I'll check today, but I think it's just a square pan with no corner cut out and no drain plug, any clue what tranny that is and if it'll work?
Even better if somebody has a site that shows the pan shapes for a bunch of GM trannies.
