Here is a profile of my car.

Engine - 454 (approx 500 Horsepower)
Trans - 4 speed Muncie
headers
3' pipe/mufflers all the way back

I had a 10 bolt rear end (non posi) in the car and as you can imagine what happened to it.

Well I have found a 12 bolt rear end and am in the proces of tearing it apart to clean and replace some of the parts ie axles, gears, change to posi etc.

I have no intention of taking "road trips" in the car, but would not mind driving it down the highway occassionally around Austin, TX. But I would like to have a meaty enough gear ratio with the posi to get on it occassionally. What opinons out there would be the best gear ratio.. 3:23, 3:55, 3:73 or go ahead and do the 4:11's? I do not expect to race anyone but like to know it has the juice to make an appearance.

Rob, I have 323s with a saginaw 4 gear & a 355 small block. I'm taching just under 3000 (like 2950) at 65 MPH. I very rarely get on the Interstate with it but when I do, about 20 miles at those RPMs is enough. When I was much younger I had a 427 Vette with 411s & for some reason (youth?) the RPMs weren't as annoying as they are now. As a matter of fact, that big block screaming at 6000 Rs just before a speed shift was music to my ears. Jon
