Hey guys-
I've got an anemic 305 in my 84 el camino and just got some prices from ferman chevy with my autotech teacher(he gets discount of some sort) and a 260hp 350 is 1363 bucks shipped to the school. I figure this long block can pump out more than the said 260 with the right pick of carb/intake/headers. DO you guys think so? or should I go ahead and get the HO deluxe 330hp for like 3600 or so. Which comes with intake/carb and distributor. So Hmmm... This is all gonna happen this august- so we got some time. And oh yeah I could get the 350 H.O. long block for 2648 so...waayy too many decisions. If you have any suggestions on my situation- anything helps. Thanks!

That sounds alittle high but that would be a good swap. With the right parts you should see low 300s.

That does seem a bit high, have you considered buying a 350 short block from GM and then using aftermarket heads, intake, (like the Edelbrock Performer series) distributor headers/exhaust and carb? Bet it could be done for around $3600 or less, and produce more than 330hp.

I've never personally bought anything off of EBay, however, you may just want to look at the crate engines for sell. fivestarengines has quite a few engines and one that may fit your budget is a 350/325 HP engine with a starting bid of $1,895. The feed back is favorable, but I don't know first hand.

I think you would be well off to go with the 350cu 260hp engine, especially if it's the GM Goodwrench replacement motor I think it is. If is, it has a 50k warranty, it's a brand new 350 4bolt main block, forged crank. And yes, with some upgrades (cam, good flowing intake, exhuast) it will make very decent power.

The price doesn't sound all that bad, that seems to be the going price for this motor.

I would also talk to your local auto parts stores & mechanics.
