: El Camino night at LEE USA Speedway 5/29!!!!!
Hey Crabman 04-08-2009, 04:38 PM OK--- everyone needs to drive their ELKY to Lee USA Speedway, Lee NH on Friday 5/29 for EL CAMINO NIGHT! All El Camino drivers will get in FREE and any of their guest will only have to pay a five dollar admission, even if they come in another car (12 and under are also free). Once you get there you will be directed to a designated grassy area near the main entrance (and also next to beer stand) where we can hang out. During the admission and just before the main event, all drivers will form a line and GET OUT ON THE TRACK for a few laps in front of the crowd (how fun is that!). I will need your first and last name, City and State, Color and Year of your ELKY for the PA announcer as we circle the track. I hope we can get a good turnout for this so we can make it an annual event. I saw it was organized last year but got rained out so I decided to see if it could happen again and got a quick response back. The speedway would like us to arrive at the track at 5:00PM to set up in their designated area (they will have signs and arrows for us at entrance). The races begin around 7:15PM and we would get out on the track somewhere around 8:30 at admission before before the main event. Afterwards, we are free to stay to the end and watch main event or go home at any time.
OK SO WHO IS IN FOR THIS???
Hap
72ss496 04-08-2009, 06:10 PM I've got a race next door at NED on Sat. I'll try to head up friday night and make it to the show.
John Harris 04-08-2009, 06:25 PM This can be a fun event! I've been there with another car group several years ago, and it is great to drive your car around the track for everyone to see. Last year we had an Elky only night scheduled, but all of us south of NH got rained out, even though the track was open. I'd love to see a lot of owners sign up for this.
el Bandido 04-08-2009, 08:43 PM I AM IN ! ! !
I love the way you just grabbed the ball and ran with it Hap ----- thanx
mnunn 04-12-2009, 03:19 AM Having just rebuilt engine and tranny, I can't commit to it. But it's definitely on my calendar. Thanks for follow-up and posting!
Cyric87 05-04-2009, 08:00 AM I'll be there, a friend will be driving for me though. I ended up losing my license for a bit:dontknow:.
Hey Crabman 05-04-2009, 02:46 PM Sorry you have no license but thanks for bringing your el camino to the speedway! We need more people! I know some of ya are holding out and not committing yet but I know you want to go and not miss out. I would like to start a written list of people and their cars so if you plan on coming please call Ric at 603 463-9950.
Cyric87 05-04-2009, 09:22 PM was the PM I sent enough info, or would you prefer I give you a call as well?
Hey Crabman 05-05-2009, 08:02 PM I got the PM, you and Bill are all set. So far we have six going including myself. It is starting to look like a good time! I placed an ad on craigslist and got a couple of responses. We also have a couple of maybe's, but we need more. If you plan on going please call me at 603 463-9950 or PM me here with your name, city, state, year and color of el camino.

John Harris 05-24-2009, 11:00 AM The weather forecast for next Friday night is looking good for a change! Seems like we won't get rained out this year. I've spoken to a few other members without computers/email accounts who have indicated they will be with us for the event. So that appears to be at least 15 at last unofficial count.
Please let Hap or me know if you are planning to attend. Hope to see a lot of you there. John Harris necoa@comcast.net
Hey Crabman 05-25-2009, 05:24 AM Thanks for spreading the word John! That's good news. Even if half the people show up its still going to be fun and a good turnout. I talked to a few guys who have some real nice rides and are planning to come. Mine is still at the body shop with large holes through the floorboards and a fuel delivery problem. The headliner is all sagging and moldy and the interior pieces including the seat and door panels are all off. Supposedly the body shop owner is going to get it ready by Friday so at least I can get it to the track and then bring it back to him afterwords for some more finish work. The parts car has split bench seat and electric doors/windows which need to go into mine which has a bench seat with manual controls. Not sure how that is going to work out.
SS in NH 05-26-2009, 06:38 AM Hi All,
John sent me an email, as I haven't been on the site in a while- Thanks John! I will check to see if I can make it, and reply back with a definite answer. Love to take a few laps!! Woohoo!:nanawrench:
All the best,
Pro Street Garry 05-26-2009, 07:04 AM I also got an email from John, I’m thinking about going. I got a question for anyone that as gone to this in the post. Does all the rubber from the track stick to your car? Don’t get me wrong I do drive mine but would like to keep it looking good underneath for as long as I can.
Thanks Garry
SS in NH 05-26-2009, 01:01 PM Hi All,
Ok, I'm in! I'll be bringing my son (he's 10) UNLESS there is some rule against driving the lap with him in the car?? In which case, I won't drive the lap.... Does anyone know if that's gonna be a hassle- cuz I really don't want to get his hopes up, etc.. What about helmets, etc..? Any required gear for the lap?
We'll meet you and the others John, for the convoy to Lee Speedway.
The car is an 86 El Camino, Silver with SS Stripes (can I hit the NOS when on the track?? - kidding..)
Best,
el Bandido 05-26-2009, 01:15 PM Garry,
Thanks for asking the question about the rubber from the track --- you KNOW I was thinking the same thing !
I would love to get an answer - before gumming up my underside and wheel wells.
And
Bill from Pelham has a great question too about his son riding shotgun - my 35 yo son is planning to make the trip with me - and if he can't ride shotgun he will be just as disappointed as Bill's son I am sure.
Carretera 05-26-2009, 02:42 PM I'm in SE Florida so no way I can make it but please take and post pictures. Have fun!
Hey Crabman 05-26-2009, 04:11 PM I am not sure about rubber sticking to your car. I have never heard of that before. We will NOT be speeding around the track so I doubt any rubber will be coming up. It will be more of a parade where we follow each other and the announcer will announce our names (only if you wish). Helmets are not required since we will NOT be racing and I am pretty sure that it is ok for your son to go with you. I will try to find out but I do not see any reason why it would not be permitted. Dont forget this is the first year so things are still new. One thing we do NOT want to do is piss off the track or we will never be invited again. We also do not want any of our beloved cars to bump or crash (although the stands would love it!).
79 Caballero 05-26-2009, 05:02 PM Damn, I wish this could have been last weekend. Even though my elky is in Texas, Im in Maine with the Navy, unfortunately I'm deploying in 8 days, so I have to spend this whole weekend finishing packing up my house. Its real close to Maine too, I want to go so bad, but dont think it will be able to happen.
Hey Crabman 05-27-2009, 04:12 PM OK, word from the track is that kids are ok to ride with you around the track and helmets are not required. As far as the rubber goes, YES it IS possible to get pieces of rubber on your tires and on your wheel wells. However, they have hosted several SHOW CAR events there with out anyone complaining. If there are any rubber pieces sticking, I was told that you could brush them off as soon as you are done. If this is real concern of yours then you may want to consider sitting out when it is time for us to circle the track. I hope this helps but you may get a better answer at the track so you can make an informed decision. It should be a great time even if you make the last second decison not to do the lap! One other note...I was told the five dollar guest price is for people that come with you or in a another car at the SAME TIME of entrance. Having your guest show up later than you and saying they are with you apparantly wont work, and they will have to pay the full price of admission. So if you have guest coming you should enter the track with them at the same tiime and let them know that they are with you.
el Bandido 05-27-2009, 06:00 PM Hey Crabman (someday I gotta here the story behind that name) - first of all I want to thank you for all your hard work in pulling this together and also thanks for this most recent info about guests and of course about kicking up rubber off the track - it was a bit of a concern but I don't think one or two laps would be a disaster. The price of wiping it off would be well worth the thrill of the laps.
However - I gotta tell you that right now it looks like I will not be coming - & my big baby (35 yo) son is taking it worse than me. I went out to the garage tonight to dust off el Bandido and check the batteries for the trip and I found that I have a pretty bad leak from my power steering box - I had it replaced a few weeks ago and new it was still oozing a bit and thought it might just be the new seal "breaking in". I wiped down the suspension bars etc before a Cruise Night on Friday and then my lovely wife and I took a 2 hr ride for Ice Cream on Monday.
Now I find the front end coated with fluid and the fluid reservoir almost empty !
I think a 270 round trip to Lee might be a bit much under these conditions --- I plan to check with my mechanic for a quick/temporary solution first thing tomorrow but I am not hopeful... but its worth a try and I gotta talk with him anyway !
So I thought I would let all you guys know about all this and begin to make my apologies early - I sure hate missing it because I was looking forward to meeting the "crew from up north".
I'll be sure to keep you posted and in touch.
Pa-elker 05-27-2009, 06:49 PM Tom, good luck with the quick fix, looks like i cant make it either, i have a few things i'm trying to finish before Carlisle, looking forward to pics from this event in Lee, hope to see you all in Carlisle,PA.
SS in NH 05-28-2009, 03:34 AM Hi Guys,
Lookin' forward to it- been watching the weather! I'm gonna try and find someone to snap a few pics of us, as a track pic would be one for the wall . Sorry to hear that some can't make it.. glad that many can! See you Friday!
Pro Street Garry 05-28-2009, 06:54 PM It looks like I'm going :-) hope the weather holds out.
I will have to trailer the car (113 miles one-way) hope that I can park my truck and trailer next to where the Elky's are parked? May get there around 5:30 my boss will be out so I cant get out of work early.
See you then
Garry
Sorry to hear you wont make it Tommy I was hopping to see you
John Harris 05-28-2009, 07:15 PM No special gear required. Everything is done under a caution flag with no speeding nor passing. Basically just "parade laps" with an announcer telling the spectators who is driving the car and what year/model it is, etc. I'm not sure about a passenger, but suspect it won't be a problem. And for Pro-Street Gary's "trailer queen," you won't be going fast enough to throw up any serious rubber to your undercarriage. This is simply "sissy speeds" but a lot of fun, nonetheless.
Last weather forecast now says the day will get clear in the afternoon, with only a chance of short showers, not steady rain like last year which cancelled us out. Sort of like Texas weather, if you don't like it, wait a few minutes and it will change!
I just got my rust-bucket Elky back with a newer 200R4 tranny installed this week. Still very dirty from winter storage and all, with a tire going flat that will be fixed before I drive up. But who cares about appearances; just have fun! Hope to see a lot of you there.
John Harris 05-28-2009, 07:29 PM No special gear required, like helmets, etc. This is done under a caution flag with no passing or speeding. Just a few "parade laps" with the announcer telling the spectators who is driving the car and saying what year/model, etc, it is. I'm not sure about a passenger; I think we had some in the past. I don't think it will be a problem since the speeds are very low.
Pro-Street Garry's "trailer queen" will not get too much rubber on the undercarriage at these low speeds, so stop worrying.
The latest weather forecast is now a little better, with intermittant showers during the early afternoon and clearing up later. So we shouldn't get rained out. Any showers should pass through quickly and dry right up. I will be bringing my rust-bucket Elky up with a newer 200R4 tranny for its first test drive, even though the car is filthy from winter storage and has a leading tire that will be fixed before heading out. Hope to see a lot of you up there even if you arrive later in the evening.
The track would like us to be there at 5:00 p.m. so the crowd can view our cars before the races begin in a special area. Some of us from MA and south will meet up at Friendly's Restaurant on Rt 125 North in Haverhill, just before the MA/NH state line and drive up in a caravan leaving at 4:30 Please let us know if you can attend or if you need more information. Best regards, John Harris

WOW Thanks for the heads up John http://www.scaldinghot.com/Boardpics/laughoutloud.gif http://www.scaldinghot.com/Boardpics/winker.gif
Hey Crabman 05-29-2009, 05:27 AM Weather looks good! Cloudy but clear is the forecast starting about noontime. My el camino will be ready! The carb was removed and rebuilt yesterday according to the body shop mechanic who told me that "it sounds like the balls", what ever that means. My inaugaral drive will be to the track this afternoon. Hope everyone still comes out..this should be fun!
SS in NH 05-29-2009, 01:11 PM Hi John,
Leaving now, we won't make the Friendlys trip....
Cya!
Bill
SS in NH 05-30-2009, 05:55 AM Hi All,
What a great time!! Both my son and I had fun watching the races, and then driving the track at Lee Speedway. Thanks to the track owners, workers, and all of you for making a nice memory!! Real special:banana:and great burnouts!! haha
Have to say, it was especially nice putting faces to names (and Elky photos) during our visit. It was sort of "full circle" for a web-based bunch of gearheads.
All the best,
