: rear side blinker problems

Hello,

I am having some difficulties with my real side blinker lites. All of the other blinkers are working, except the rear side ones. I opened them up to see why and they weren't even hooked up! The sockets for the lights were corroded so bad that when I tried to scrape off the green corrosion, the metal just broke and fell out, so I bought new ones.

Anyway, after buying the new ones and hooking them up, nothing worked. I had my multimeter out, and none of the wires were reading hot at all. On the passenger side there were only two wires visible so I figure they have to be the right ones. but on the driver side, there are about five wires hanging out of a cluster there, and none of them ever read any voltage at all.

Do the back blinkers and side blinkers run off of the same circuit, or do they alternate blinking, therefore on another circuit?
I was thinking I could just run some wires off of the rear ones, since they are working, but I'm not sure if I should run the side ones in parallel or in series with the rear ones.
Or should I try to figure out why all the other wires are cold?

thanks in advance for any and all help.
BTW, it's a 75 camino classic.

Oh yeah, the blinkers, when turned on, blink slowly at first, then speed up, but the front ones, front side, and rear ones all seem to work fine.

thanks.

You could do as I did when I wired my boat trailer to my truck's wiring. I simply spliced the boat trailer's lights into the truck's rear lights. Left flashers to left flasher wire, right flasher to right flasher wire, brake lights to brake lights, etc. and it worked very well. You should be aware however, that frequently after adding bulbs (additional electrical load), the flashers will stop working altogether or work too slowly. To correct this situation, you will need to replace your under dash flasher with a heavy duty flasher. The standard unit simply lacks capacity to handle the additional load. To find your flasher under the dash, turn on one of your signals, look under the steering wheel and find the clicking flasher. You can then purchase a heavy duty unit at your local auto parts store. It will be easier to locate the flasher before adding the additional load (the flasher unit will be clicking faster and louder; therefore, easier to find).

If your car is like mine, the rear side lights just come on with the tail lights, not turn signals. Check for voltage with parking lights on.

Yes, They work with the park lights.

yeah, i rewired my whole back end.. they only come on with park lights. although it'd be a simple enough conversion to get em to blink with the turn signal

Thanks for the tips.
I thought they were for blinkers, but either way, for blinkers or for parking/lights, they're gonna need to be wired in.

I have yet to try anything since my first post, but I wil probably get into it in the next couple of days.

thanks
