I'm thinking of buying this 72', but as you can see this rust is scary! What would it cost to farm it out verses DIY? I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks.

It depends on your skill level I guess. If you can handle a repair like that then of course it would be cheaper to go the DIY route. But looking at the pic, it's like you said...scary! If you try to tackle it yourself without having done that kind of work before then you could end up doing more damage and then having to farm it out anyway. The good news is they make patch panels for that area, so it can be fixed for sure.

On a side note, have you checked the interior floors and the smugglers box? I'm betting they're rusted pretty bad too since the rear window channel is rotted all the way through like that. :eek2:

As mentioned, depends on your abilities. If you have access to a Mig, you could most likely do the repair in a weekend.

I haven't been down to see the body and I'm guessing there's more rust down there. So after researching and seeing a post that showed the amount of work and skill that goes into a job like this I'm going to pass on this one. Thanks for the opinions Gents.

Here's a link to the elko if someone wants to check it out. http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/1142535657.html

Yikes, all that rust and no motor or trans plus missing parts and they're asking $975!? That thing is pretty much a parts car...I wouldn't pay more than like $275.

The guy is a dreamer to think that's worth $975. It likely has other rust that's not so obvious, and wasn't mentioned. If the back window leaked bad, the floors are likely bad too.

A pillers are much more involved.
