Stripping a good 1981 El Camino of it's air conditioning.....cruise controll and ALL the *emission* controls (air pump, etc....) fuel pump relpaced with an electric fuel pump and regulator. NOW........needs to get rid of the the shroud that goes over the heater/AC unit.............Need heater ONLY!.........with the A/C unit, it makes it difficult to get to the left side of the engine...........recommedations anyone? Also.............Now that I've torn out all that crap, where can I get a wiring harness to just control the basics???
ANY information along this line would be well recieved!!
Thank you

Look on ebay under parts and accessories for El Caminos for a non A/C heater box. Contact Painless wiring for a wiring harness. Maybe acauth1 has a heater box like you need for sale.

Installing a non A/C heater box involves removing the dash to replace the A/C ductwork with non A/C ductwork and also changing over the controls. You can't just change the heater box.

try painless wiring for the harness they offer 12 circuit harnesses and 18 circuit harnesses or they can build you a harness for what you need.

I'm putting the generic GM 18 circuit Painless in my 80. I'll probably do the same thing later sometime for my 76. Its just good business. The harness that is in the 76 and the one that was in the 80 were old and chopped up buy other owners or whom ever. So "Only you can prevent forest fires!". Painless has a nice set up and their generic 18 Circuit harness will cover most everything in the car.
I am adding a bunch of relays for the lights instead of going through the switch it will improve the lighting a lot.
Anyway just a thought.

So, This could be a viable option if they have come up with something sneaky. Their prices for their other boxes are about 100 bucks.
