I just found your site. Bought a 1970 SS 454 El Camino about 6 months ago. Hope I get some good resto information here.

Welcome, Lee. Bill Waxler, NECOA/ECC Region-7 Director tells me he hopes to get a Region-7 meet this year. (Region-7, Tenn-Ala-Georgia)

Welcome, it's good to see another region 7 member :-D

Nice ride, is it a LS6 or 5? You gotta love those big blocks!

Were you over to see the swap meet (Moultrie) this past weekend?

Thanks for the hellos everyone.

Lee, it's not the original engine. If I had to guess I'd say LS5 and yes I was at the swap meet in Moultrie last weekend.
Is there any way to tell an LS6 from a 5 other than to maybe dyno it? Would that even tell me?

The LS6 should have an engine code CRR or CRS for the TH400 hook up and CRV or CRX for the Man/4spd. I believe it was stamped into the block on the righthand side. Should also have the info on the data plate - like F1210CRX something like that (upper left hand corner of the protect-o-plate) as you read the data.

I think they may have stamped numbers right in front of the head on the block, sorta looked almost like part of the head. Of course it has been 20+ years since I had my LS6......

Some of the guys on the site who work with this stuff daily might be able to better clarrify for us.

HDC was with the Heavy Duty Clutch.

Throw some numbers out there and where your finding them on the engine, we'll figure it out.
