Well, GM may be at death's door, but they seemed to have managed to turn out another version of the C6 Corvette. Of course, there may not be any dealers left to sell it.:dontknow:

What do you think? I like it. Looks as good as the Z06 without having to spend Z06 money (hopefully) Plus, you can get it as a roadster.

I'm sorry, but when the Corvette lost the rear fin in 1970 it lost ALL allure for me. If I had $60k - $80k to spend on a Corvette,, I'd buy a 66-67 if I could find one, or a 68-69. In other words,, I wouldn't be one bit of help to GM inthis terrible economy.

I never said it would "save" GM. It's a nice image product, but as far as helping the bottom line, well, it's going to take a lot more than this.

I've never bought a new car in my life, always bought used, so I guess I never helped the General's sales figures either.

Its not too bad. The problem is the mid to late 70's stingray totally ruined the new vettes for me (I love the old ones). I would take one of the old ones before those new ones anyday, but thats just me.

When you make so many wrong decisions, your bound to get one right sooner or later...it's a law of averages thing. I foresee a day when Corvette is no longer a GM product...that would probably be better than a Corvette that had MADE IN CHINA across the back.

LOL..Yeah, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

If GM follows the same path as Chrysler, it is conceivable that the Corvette nameplate could be sold. If that happens, hopefully some domestic company like Lingenfelter or Saleen will purchase, as opposed to some overseas company. I believe that the Viper lineup is probably going to be sold soon as part of the Chrysler reorganization. According to reports I have read, the plant that produces the Viper is not part of the Fiat deal, so it looks like Viper may be spun off into it's own brand, much like the Avanti was when Studebaker went under. Hopefully it ends up in good hands.

As a longtime owner/driver of all things Corvette I would like to make a suggestion to the posters who choose to disparage the later Corvettes. I have owned C-1's, C-2's, C-3's, and C-5's, have driven C-4's and C-6's. While I can't argue that some of the middle ground Vettes were often a little questionable, after 1997 GM developed an engineering masterpiece. These are the finest value sports cars available in the world. They are comfortable, fast, fun, roomy (a design criteria was to be able to put two sets of golf clubs in the back), dependable, and even fairly fuel efficient. You can buy a base car (VERY NICE) for close to 40K (about the same as a new Honda Ridgeline) and get a car that will get nearly 30 mpg on the highway if you aren't crazy.
I am the proud owner of an 03 Anniversary Coupe that is my daily driver. I plan to keep it 'till the C-7's come out and take museum delivery on my last Corvette.
Corvette continues to be a reasonable profit center for GM, and the current CEO is a driver and fan, he swears they aren't going anywhere, but then again Rick Waggoner wasn't going anywhere either.
If you haven't driven a C-5 or C-6 (1997-current) find a way to drive one, you'll be very happy you did.

ps. for the few of you that have been keeping up with my 77 Elky, she went to the paint shop last week, be gone a month, then another month (I figure) to put her back together. Gettin closer all the time.
