Although I think the roof line loks a little small (it looks just like the 52 "Ute" roofline), I have always loved the lines of the 57 - those fins are a beautiful thing.

I saw a 55 a couple years back that was so nice, you would think it was factory. The roofline looked like they shortened a Nomad - very well done.

Would it still be considered a "First Generation" or what????

While I can appreciate what looks to be superb craftmanship on this custom, it just doesn't do anything for me.

My only critiques are:

1) Back window is WAY too small for living with on a practical basis.

2) With all the money that I am sure is invested, the owner should have at least bought the 2 door stainless steel 'fan' pieces for the quarter panels. You can see where the 4 door pieces are put together if you look close in the pictures.

However, overall this is a good looking piece of work. But, as a previous reply said, it doesn't do anything for me personally.

I'm sorry, but as much as I love El Camino's why would someone ruin a perfectly good 1957 Chevrolet 2 door Bel Air by turning it into THAT? It's not an Elky - and it's not a Bel Air. Sure it's great looking and a real head turner but I can't understand the reasoning behind creating this vehicle. A lot of spare time? An excess amount of cash that you want to hide from your wife? A High School shop project turned into a Master's Thesis?

Hey Scully!
Check again, if it makes you feel any better, they ruined a 4 door, not a 2 door. See the break in the quarter panel molding, and notice how short front to back the door is?

The Truth is Out There! :-P
Sorry, couldn't resist.

That makes me feel alittle better but they still shouldn't have done that to a 4 door. :-)

I'd like to cut that roof off and put one on it that was in better proportion to the the car. It looks awful like it is! It does not need to roll down like it does. It needs to be like a 57 Chevy truck back window. That would look good. Jim

I think it's kind of a waste, too. Unless it was all rust, and they completely restored it. Almost did that with a '59 Pontiac StarCheif. Still have pictures of it. I also found a '72 Caddy on eBay that was turned into an El Camino. It was black, and it was nice. I can put pictures on here if you want.

I would not worry too much it looks like a 4dr station wagon. Looks good but I would redo the roof.

It's pretty clear that it was a station wagon. I agree, though, that it would be a really special kind of ride with a nomad style roofline. These days, though, it wouldn't be so bad to have a rodded-up 57 Chevy wagon--maybe with a 409?
