just a quick question about my driveshaft.the 79 elky i am putting together has taller stiffer springs in the rear,i tried to put the driveshaft in and it is too long, about 2-3" maybe, havent took an exact meauserment, but it came out of the exact same parts car.all the running gear that is in the car now was out of the other car.i am wondering if the taller stiffer springs are changing it that much???i am taking the springs out anyway but just wanted to know??!!??!

Check and see if the yoke has slid back from the trans?? or maybe not seated far enough in --needs about an inch to an inch and a half back from the trans:beer: Glenn

2-3" sounds like the difference between a Powerglide and a TH350.

the springs ARE NOT your problem. Double check to see if you got the shafts mixed up somewhere during the switch.

everything is from the same car, engine ,tranny and driveshaft.nothing got mixed up.about the 2-3"it is more like 1-2.

If both transmissions are the same Model, there should be NO Problem , But if they are DIFFERANT
ie a 350 t0 700r4 then yes there will be an issue. SO BOTH TRANSMISSIONS from BOTH cars have to match, or try the other drive shaft.:dontknow:

Was the "parts car" a fifth gen ElCamino?

Just guessing here, but it sounds like the parts car has a V8 drivetrain and the fixer upper was a V6 car so the motormount frame adapters are in the wrong holes and the tranny crossmember has been "adjusted"....Am I close???:dontknow:...............Dan

I changed universal joints last week. Well the rear joint jammed up and wouldn't move. I got a pry bar and went to work. Dang that hurts, the darn thing came loose and landed on my head. I haven't been right since. A lesson learned the hard way.
