I am getting ready to paint my el co. I want it yellow and every bit of the chrome on it black. Does anyone have good ideas for getting window trim, bumpers, etc ready for paint? Or does anyone have good paint options for painting it? Thanks for all the help.

Powder coat it. Lasts way longer then paint.

Seems like you would have to really scuff that chrome good in order to keep paint on it, like 80 or 100 grit with a DA sander, or maybe even fog it with a sand blaster to rough it.

UPDATE: I used an orbital sander and 60 grit paper. It worked fantastic. I got some epoxy primer which also worked great. I did all the chrome and bumpers. I will have some finished pics hopefully some individual and then some on the vehicle. I plan on blocking the elco tomorrow and then hopefully primer and paint friday. Its a garage job and I'm by no means a professional but I'm having fun and it is turning out pretty nice IMHO. Thanks for the help guys.

Black epoxy primer, basecoat and reduced gloss clearcoat. Except the bumper which is body color

That looks amazing, I'm glad I'm not the first person to try that. I have the chrome completed and am wet-sanding the primer on my car but in Nebraska the heat index is 118 and I've been at it since 7am I gotta take a break for a couple hours. I'm hoping to have it done tonight so I can shoot color wed/ thurs I'm sad mine isn't going to turn out that nice gr8efx the body work on that looks amazing. But this is my first time in charge of a project like this and while it will have some dents and ripples that i missed, I need it back for some house projects and I am content that I fixed the rust and that it will no longer be two-tone SH*T brown I will post pics when I get it completed.

Be sure to topcoat over the epoxy primer, otherwise it will discolor/fade and breakdown after a while from exposure to UV rays.

I gotta say, that looks pretty damn hot.
I've always wanted to do a black-out on the chrome on my car, I'll have to look into your method. Thanks for the tips.
