i picked up the latest issue of chp and they had an article about center drive. this company hotrods to hell makes them, and chp put one on a 71 elky and the numbers on the 0-60 and 1/4 mile and deceleration and skid pad were improved. i was wondering does anybody know about this suspension set up.

It's a truck arm suspension similar to a NASCAR rear axle set up. Old technology, but still a very good suspension. I think the biggest drawback to it would be the location of your exhaust would have to be adapted to fit with the truck arm. I've seen less sophisticated versions on drag cars years ago. It worked great then and will work great now.

If you look at the numbers they got out of it after the swap, it make you wonder if the cost and labor is really worth it all. I think you have to keep things in perspective. After all it is an El Camino built to cruise and maybe do a bit of drag racing now and again. If you go through your suspension add some decent part, bushings a good front and rear sway bar better rims with a good set of tires plus the gears I think you will find that you can carve corners with the best of them. The advantage we have over most is the longer wheel base low center of gravity and you can put quit a bit of power through the chassis. I have done some of these things to my 83 and the handling is improved tremendously. I have little problem staying with most Camaro, and Mustangs. You can't loose sight of what you are going to be doing with your car most of the time and that is where you need to concentrate your efforts. So much for this evenings sermon. Harald K
