I am new to this board and new to owning a 1982 El Camino. The car has a 350 with a th350 trans. The engine as far as I can see is stock except for the intake, carb, ignition and exhaust. I have a few (hopefully easy) questions about this year El Camino:

307 was the original size engine that was in this vehicle when it was sold, correct?

Did the El Camino come stock with a floor shift console even if it wasnt an SS?

What should I have on the car for it to pass smog?

Are there any problems that this year is prone to having that I should be aware of?

I have the original ram horn exhaust manifolds. How hard would it be to put headers on? and would you recommend short or long tube headers as far the installation factor.

Well I think that is all for now, thanks in advance everyone for reading this and if I am asking questions that have already been discussed could you could direct me in the right direction to the answers? Sorry I am new to this whole forum thing!!

Thanks again

Welcome to the site, and congrats on your new Elk. I'm sure some of the 5th gen. guys will answer your questions, but do believe that motor would have been a 305c.i.

Thanks everyone for your answers and help!!! In response to 87ElCamino, the person who sold me the car told me he swapped in a 350 later on so I don't have the 305 in it anymore, just trying to confirm if this was the motor it would of came with. I live in CA and anything newer than 74 i believe needs to be smogged and I do see that most of the smog equipment is still intact and installed so hopefully I wont have any problems. And yes you are most likely correct about the exhaust manifolds, I am just used to calling the stock ones "ram horn" type. The car was pretty much gone thru by the person I bought it from so I don't think that rust is an issue. i've looked under it and it looks clean aswell. not sure if it's an original CA car or not. Is there a forum here to post up pics of your ride or should I post some in this thread? Thanks again for the help everybody!!!!

And this is actually the 3rd El Camino i've owned. I had a 66 and 68 before but I was a lot more familiar with them because I had a 69 Chevelle before those elkys. Hopefully I'll own this one for a long time!!
