to quote the song "what a long strange trip its been"
bought a crate 350 thru advance auto and have had a problem on left bank, its always smoked so figured rings not seated correctly.we talked to advance one day, quit smoking very next day but 3 days later started again and now blowing smoke ring.
now find out that "hesco" supplied motor but they have gone out of engine building business.good news is they are honoring warrenty somewhat.advance also talking with their warrenty dept.
hesco wanted a compression check done at this time so we did one on left side.
we ended up with bad news:100,70,90,80 and last plug was covered covered in oil when removed.:let_it_all_out:never bothered to check right side after that.engine still running very strong tho.we think rings either upside down or broken, hopefully did not score cylinder walls or anything too bad
hesco has offered me $955 for motor plus pay $550 max on labor. so i am going to take the money and keep my motor.they will total block out so no more warrenty after this but i can build it up a little now with their money.
going with a master rebuild kit from northern auto parts with all forged internals and flat tops, already have a performer intake sitting here and will be getting carb.wanting to add cam also now so will get a 750 carb.
:dontknow:now the question:what will be a good cam,streetable but with a nice lope?:dontknow:
everything else on hold till this is done with, hopefully have check by middle of july as hesco said they cannot issue til july 10 as per company policy.

any help would be great

Good luck on your rebuild. If in fact you have a scored wall from a broken ring or two, you can get .040" pistons and get the bore cleaned up at that oversize, if it's presently at >030" oversize, which would be a normal rebuild size. I did this last year, and bought the +.040" pistons from Summit, but they are not the forged type, they are KB hypereutectic.
The 750 carb would be a bit oversized for a 350 in my opinion, but if it works OK, go for it.
Camshaft choices are numerous, and many folks put too much cam and carburation on engines, and are unhappy with the results.
If you have vacuum operated heater and AC controls, plus power brakes, you may want to know how much vacuum the new cam has for those.

The other thing about your engine is that the valves may not be seated properly, and valve stem seals may have not been installed, causing the oil smoke and bad compression on that bank. Like that head itself may be the only problem etc.
It takes only one person to screw up an engine build, and that may be the person who did that head:smileyb:

Oh yeah, recommending a cam is subjective. I use Comp Cams for everything, but there are other good brands. A 270 degree type may be what you are looking for, with a bit of lope and increased power.

would i be better off staying with what i have after rebuild(power is there even with bad compression)?? that was original plan but mechanic says since its apart for rebuild why not throw a cam in.either is good for me since i am being given the money(hesco) and not directly out of my pocket.
first thought was a 600 carb but had suggested the 750 if i went with a good cam.we are hoping that seals are only problem.easy fix compared to what it could be.
engine still really strong with the low compression.ricer guy at work did a burnout one morning, more smoke coming off my cigarette, and when i just chuckled he dared me.cold start idling about 2 minutes and lit em up.did about 10 seconds and he had a fit cause smoke totally hid car.dry pavement on a cold engine.so something is right somewhere
i only agreed he could take me cause he would grab traction while i sat spinning but also told him "that is gearing not power"
advance said of all the engines they sold from hesco this is the only one they have had problems with at this store so we kinda hope builder had a hang-over that day and flipped a ring or forgot seal as you say. pray with me now

Thinking by now you have already got your cam this is middle of July but if not Ill give you the same advice I give everyone that ask the cam ?
Call comp came if you know what you got for crank, pistons, heads ect. they will give you the best fit for your combination.
2 points to make don’t build a strong engine and think you can leave stock heads on her, get yours dun up or the best thing go alum. 202 intake 164 exh. 64cc chamber 210 runners “or larger but not necessary” if you go with a roller make sure springs are for roller, Procomp makes a good set for abt $700. for the pair.
Second stud the main caps and upgrade the rod bolts “ARP” best thing you can do for strength, if you stud block must be line honed. “Don’t buy headman headers”
