: Finally made it home
LeoC2 06-28-2009, 08:43 PM Man what a miserable drive home today (Sunday) from Carlsile. All was fine until I got close to NY then WHAM, a solid wall of traffic that put me behind by nearly 3 hours. To top it off the woman boarding my dogs wouldn't let me pick them up a lousy 15 minutes after her deadline time despite my regular calls to her updating her n my progress. A lousy 15 minutes so she holds the pooches hostage and get an extra $65 out of it... I'm pissed to say the least.
I hope everyone else made it home and for those still traveling... safe drive!
HOWEVER... all was good at Carlisle, everyone had a great time and the El Camino crowd was the prominent group this year. El Caminos garnered more double trophy winners than any other model according to Carlisle staff. Double trophy means the car got a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd by the official judges but in addition, was chosen by a celebrity judge as a best in show.
I'm too tired right now to post all the results but I have them with me and I promise to post them tomorrow.
I also have over 100 pictures to download and put up on a web page so be a little patient. If anyone wants to send me pictures to add to the page just email them to me. The email is: leo AT leocerruti DOT com
Tuggy24g 06-29-2009, 07:42 AM sounds you had more trouble again.
For me it was really easy with no traffic at all. Made it home in 2:30 mins. I feel sorry for everyone who had a longer trip.
Quintonsdusty 06-29-2009, 09:57 AM Leo,
Irrespective of the trophies, I had a wonderful time at Carlisle this year. Each year just gets better than the prior event. We have some realy wonderful people that are current members of NECOA and from all the cards that I passed out, there will be quite a few more as people make it on to their computers.
Returning to Central Virginia was better than the 7 hour trip to get there. This trip was only 6 hours which included a stop for dinner. That's still 1 hour more than it should have taken, but well worth the fun. I can hardly wait to hear about the continuing sagas from "the four guys in an El Camino" and Texas Elky's trip back.
Sorry that I didn't get to see you on my way out. I was going to stop by our big tent and see you on the way out, but then you called me. I guess the big black Silverado pulling a yellow trailer with my Elky loaded was hard to miss. I did get to see Frank('stock red and white '59) and Steve(stock burgundy '67) as I was exiting.
I'll send my pics to you.
Thanks for all your hard work in coordinating this event. Great job!
Jim
LeoC2 06-29-2009, 10:17 AM Irrespective of the trophies...
Jim is being modest, Jim and his Elky were the winningest (is that a word?) El Camino on the show field! When all was done he walked away with four major awards! Watch for a posting later today whene all the winners will be listed.
el Bandido 06-30-2009, 05:00 AM 4 hours to our hotel in New Jersey on Sunday eve - then another 7 hours to home in Mass. on Monday...
was it worth the trip and the white knuckle trailer pull ? - YES
the wonderful people we met - the camraderie - the beautiful cars - the great weather - and a once in a lifetime event - YES
THANKS to all for making this a GREAT WEEKEND
mnunn 06-30-2009, 07:55 AM Couldn't agree more. My 1st ever Carlisle trip, EXCELLENT Coordination and preparation efforts, nearly perfect weather, 40% better gas mileage than I thought possible and an 800 mile round trip on a freshly built engine and tranny w/o any mechanical problems. Yeah, I'm happy to say the least.
Great to meet and associate with you all. I'm guessing it'll be a long, long time before I'm ever with such a large and nice group of Elky's and their owners! A once-in-a-lifetime experience for sure.

kenrogers1 06-30-2009, 09:19 AM Made it back to my Son's house South of Pittsburg on Sunday about 8 pm. I have to thank Leo for such a wonderful event and good time. This truly "Once in a lifetime event" may have been just another car show if not for his input during the planning and choreography during three days of what could have been mass confusion on the show field. If you have never seen a wind mill in action, you should have been there to see Leo in action when a 5th generation tried to muscle into a 3rd generation parking place. THANKS, Leo!
I'm working on my Son's dial-up connection, so I'll not be able to post any of the 273 photos of the absolutely beautiful El Caminos that participated in the show. To see so many crucks and good people, all in one place, was truthfully a once in a lifetime experience, and I'll never forget either the crucks or the great friends that I made while there. I believe that these friends are truly some of the best people I've ever met, and I expect to remain close friends with them and stay in touch for the rest of my life! Believe me, it was well worth the 3000+ mile trip, at 7.9 to 9.2 MPG, and I'll do it again (in a couple of years).
Once again....THANKS, Leo! I'm going to get off this dinosaur, and I'll write again, and post photos, when I get back to Texas and a DSL line.............Ken

LeoC2 07-01-2009, 08:05 AM ...I'm guessing it'll be a long, long time before I'm ever with such a large and nice group of Elky's and their owners!...
Only one year to go!
LeoC2 07-01-2009, 08:07 AM Has anyone heard from Mark (TexasElky?) He made it up on Sat. after installing a new head in a hotel parking lot, was supposed to be at the banquet but never showed and we haven't heard a peep since.
