Just curious what the correct color of the F40 front sway bar would be for a 1970 Chevy El Camino SS 396? The one resto book I have says gloss black but the resto area on T/C says it is supposed to be natural steel color? Which one is correct? :?

I went back & looked that some of my factory "correct" pics of 70s & they were the natural grey color.

I think either can be considered correct since it is such a debated point. I painted mine black, but if I were to do it again, I would paint it a natural steel color.

It could have been plant specific, Chevrolet did things like that (different manufacturer's, times of the year, etc. Who knows, if you do find something concrete, i.e. original photos or something, let me know.

Not that I am trying to push NAPA at all, but they sell a very good natural "cast" steel match color they call Engine Block grey. I just used it on my front calipers while I had them apart. After bead blasting, when I began to spray I had to work to tell where I had and hadn't painted yet! It also looks good on coil springs.

Yes, I too have used the NAPA Cast paint, I'm very happy with it.
