I went to a car show today, the most El Camino's I ever saw at a show. But one of them had a set of $1200.00 Billit polished alum. piston type hood hinges. He said they even came with a set of gloves to handle them with! He showed me you could raise or lower the hood with 1 finger!
And before ya'll get mad at me I worked 11 hours yesterday, and today it was 102 so I wasn't sure if I was going to go or not but after I under covered my Elko I rushed to get set up before the heat and I forgot my camera:let_it_all_out:
Hopefully we'll gain a few more members (I recruted real hard)!!!
His 66 won in his class but he left before awards were given out.
I cooked!!! I think I baked my brain (what little I had)
But $1200.00 for hinges??? Some people got all the money. They were dang nice!

I saw a similar set on a 68 firebird at a local show last year. Didn't know they cost that much. Personally I'd rather keep my old hinges and spend the $1200 on gas!

Very nice hinges I looked at them, but they still have the same problem all un-coated billet has you have to polish them to keep real nice and chroming a set of old or new hinges is still less then half that and if you don't let them get bad they stay nice for years with 90% less polishing.
Oh ya my hood goes up and down with one finger, but you still have to push it to catch and lock.
I give the billet hinges an A plus for engineering and being very cool looking when new. Two years down the road on a car that is driven and sees a little weather all bets are off. Just my 2 cents on billet that does not have clear powder coating.

Well here is the way I look at this: $1200.00 for hood hinges? This guy has more money then sense. There is no way i will ever give that much for hood hinges. The only thing I would give alot of money on...a 572...the 720 hp motor....only $14,000.00. That is going over board...but at least it would move my Camino. And would still be worth something.

Well he said he had came to the show eariler in his T-bucket but got hungry and whet and ate and came back in his El camino that had A/C, and $1200.00 hood hinges. Hey if you got it show it! I mean if you had the money, why not?
But I would have to frame them and hang them on the wall!!
Better than any trophy I ever won!!

Wow, all I can say is the $1200 hood hinges must have came available sometime after I reworked my stock hinges,, actually, sorting through THREE sets to make a decent 'rebuildable' pair. With the amount of time and frustration I spend on those stupid things,,,,, $1200 might have been a deal!!!

Granted you forgot your camera but didn't you ask who made them or where he bought them?
I saw a maker of piston hinges last year at Ford Carlisle. He had various rates available for metal or glass hoods and trunks. His highest price was around $120 installed at the show if you wanted. He was supposed to be at GM but never showed.
I have his card someplace, I'll have to look for it and post the info.
